Details are finally available for the upcoming first season of the Kombat League in Mortal Kombat 11. As of June 18, players can compete online to climb in rank from Apprentice to Elder God in the Season of Blood. Beginning with this first release and likely going forward, the season lasts for four weeks and pits players against similarly ranked opponents.

As speculated before the formal announcement, each set requires a best-two-out-of-three-matches victory to advance. Advancing in rank will reward players with unique cosmetics that can only be acquired through the Kombat League, so there is significant motivation for most players to partake in each season. As in the other parts of the game, there will be daily and seasonal quests when fighting opponents.

We have been told that “How well you perform” will affect how far you advance per set. Although details have not been provided about what exactly this means, we can likely expect attributing factors to be how long a fight lasts, if a player sweeps a match, combo length, finishing moves, and more. This would be interesting as it would force players to focus on either winning at all costs, perhaps gaining them fewer points in rank, and winning with style, where they may gain more. Will granting Mercy grant you more points, or less for “bad sportsmanship”? These are questions we must have answered!

While many players were expecting this to instead be an announcement for the remaining DLC characters that will drop with the first Kombat Pack, there is likely only a little while longer to wait for that. Here at The Gamer, Sean Murray wrote that there was a DLC leak this past Saturday.

Searching “Mortal Kombat Terminator game” in the Google search engine revealed an advertisement from the official Mortal Kombat 11 website. Although the link did not lead to any official images of our favorite T800 model machine, the damage had been done.

Such a mistake likely indicates that we will soon receive a formal announcement for the release date of the first DLC, which will also bring Shang Tsung, Sindel, Nightwolf, and Spawn, along with one other unnamed guest, who we speculate is our good friend Ash from Evil Dead.

For now, get ready to jump into the Season of Blood on June 18!

Mortal Kombat 11 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch.
