Mortal Kombat 1 has been announced. The series reboot will pick up where Mortal Kombat 11 leaves off, with Fire God Liu Kang in charge and soul-stealing sorcerer Shang Tsung miraculously alive and stealing souls all over again. It's good to know some things never change.

One thing that has changed is how much hard drive space Mortal Kombat 1 will demand of your system. As spotted by PC Gamer, Mortal Kombat 1's Steam page has gone live, and its storage requirements are nothing to sneeze at.

NetherRealm Studios has been kind when it comes to hardware requirements, recommending older generations of both processors and video cards (your GTX 1080 Ti will live to see another Mortal Kombat, folks!). However, you'll need 100 GB of storage space available if you plan to play Mortal Kombat 11 on PC.

Keep in mind, that's without a single Kombat Pack installed. Just remember how many Kombat Packs Mortal Kombat 11 eventually received, and then also the Aftermath DLC. And keep in mind, Mortal Kombat 11 started at just 50 GB, and even the Nintendo Switch version managed to get down to just 30 GB.

It's certainly possible that the console versions of Mortal Kombat 1 will be smaller than 100 GB. NetherRealm could strip out unnecessary textures and graphics that aren't possible on consoles but need to be kept in the PC version in case the player fiddles with their graphics settings. Certainly, the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 will be smaller than 100 GB, but the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will likely ship with performance and quality graphics modes, putting it closer to PC's 100 GB requirement.

And heaven help the poor Xbox Series S as it struggles to contain yet another game over 100 GB.

And we know for certain that Mortal Kombat 1 will have Kombat Packs. Not only that, but a recent leak might have already confirmed just who will be the new playable characters. According to an Italian Amazon listing, Quan Chi, Omni Man, Ermac, Peacemaker, Takeda, and Homelander will be the six new playable characters, while Mortal Kombat 1's first set of Kameo characters will include Tremor, Johnny Cage, Khameleon, Mavado, and Ferra. Cage will also come with a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin, but fans are not happy that the ball-punching martial arts celebrity will be relegated to being a mere assist character.

A pre-order bonus from South Africa might have also leaked Baraka's return in Mortal Kombat 1. A games store is including a Mortal Kombat keychain and a Baraka Balaclava, a clever use of alliteration in marketing as well as the perfect adornment to turn your face into Baraka's toothy grin.
