Mortal Kombat is one of the most popular video game franchises of all time, and with good reason. Along with Street Fighter and Tekken, it helped to popularize the fighting genre in home consoles. And it stands out from the others by having a solid storyline, controls which aren’t too complicated, and bucketloads of gore. The franchise has always been a gorefest, but recent entries have taken it to a whole new level; especially Mortal Kombat 11, which has introduced disgusting new ways to brutalize your opponents.

And it has been a roaring success. Gamers are having fun with the title, and they are already asking for additional content and fighters. NetherRealm will undoubtedly release DLC in the future. The only question is: which characters will they include? Not every Mortal Kombat character was created equal. There are some who we hope will be included in the DLC, and others we never want to see in this or any future Mortal Kombat title.

10 WE WANT: MILEENA

Mileena made her first appearance in Mortal Kombat 2, and she’s been a fan favorite since. Created in the Flesh Pits, she has a mouth full of large, jagged teeth which she uses to eat her opponents.

Yes, Mileena died in the Mortal Kombat X storyline. But she’s such a strong character who’s popular with the fans—and with good reason; her abilities are amazing—that she would make the perfect DLC character. She doesn’t have to be part of the plot, but because of her move list and her sheer awesomeness, it would be criminal for gamers not to play her in this latest installment.

9 WE WANT: KENSHI

Kenshi is a blind fighter who attacks with his sword and uses telekinesis. Since his introduction in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, he has been a popular character with fans.

However, it feels like NetherRealm did him a disservice. They killed him off sometime before the events which take place in Mortal Kombat 11, so we never even see him die. Despite this, he can still feature in a future DLC since quite a few players have used him as their main fighter in Mortal Kombat 9 and MKX. He would be more than welcome as no other player in MK11 has a skill set quite like his.

8 WE WANT: REPTILE

Reptile made his first appearance in the first Mortal Kombat game as a hidden character, at the bottom of the pit. He has evolved over the years from a green ninja who could turn invisible and spit acid into a more monstrous and reptilian creature. At some point, he was almost as popular as Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

Reptile makes a brief appearance in Mortal Kombat 11, but only if you roam around the Krypt area carefully. This gives us hope that the appearance could be a teaser for something more, like an appearance in future DLC. If not, his appearance would feel like a wasted opportunity.

7 WE WANT: SMOKE

Smoke was initially a hidden character in Mortal Kombat 2, but he was fleshed out in MK3. In that game, he was sent to kill his best friend. However, as a robot, he went against his programming and regained some of his humanity fighting for the side of light.

One of his coolest abilities is disappearing in a puff of smoke. This is an ability we deserve to see again in Mortal Kombat 11. Smoke is one of the coolest ninjas in the game, and his abilities would fit right in with the bone-crushing powers of the other characters. He doesn’t even need to add to the story; his mere presence will be enough for many players.

6 WE WANT: ERMAC

Ermac is another character who was playable in the last two Mortal Kombat games but isn’t in MK11. He made his debut in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, where he had no backstory and the only interesting thing about him was his telekinetic attacks. However, in the following installments, his story was fleshed out. He was a warrior composed entirely of souls which Shao Kahn had collected. One of those souls was Kitana’s father.

Ermac does have a cameo in Mortal Kombat 11, but he is killed off immediately after he shows up. Even if his story ends there, he would make a great DLC character.

5 DON’T WANT: HSU HAO

Hsu Hao is one of the most universally hated characters in Mortal Kombat. The Mongolian warlord is a weird imitation of Kano; his laser heart is a blatant rip-off of Kano’s laser eye; and in MKX, Kano was given a laser heart, which made Hsu Hao completely irrelevant.

He was introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance as a subordinate to Mavado. But he was such a disaster that even NetherRealm didn’t like him. They killed him and ended his storyline in the Mortal Kombat X comics. He does make an appearance in Mortal Kombat 11; well, his severed head does, in Erron Black’s intro.

4 DON’T WANT: CHAMELEON

Unlike the other ninjas who looked alike but had cool stories and even better abilities, Chameleon was a pretty weak and forgettable character. Not only did he lack a coherent storyline, but he also didn’t have his own moves. He used the other ninjas’ abilities, which made him annoying to play as and to play against. He got a semblance of a story in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, but that was just as generic as his abilities.

This is one champion who deserves to remain in the shadows. Making him a DLC character for MK11 would be an unwise move from NetherRealm.

3 DON’T WANT: JAREK

This is one of the most meaningless characters in Mortal Kombat history. He was introduced in Mortal Kombat 4 as a replacement for Kano. His entire move set came from Kano, which made it impossible for him to stand out. He was also one of the plainest-looking fighters in the franchise. The only interesting thing about him was what happened to him at the end of MK4, when Jax dropped him off a cliff.

Jarek is one of the most forgettable MK characters, so much so that his mere presence would make any DLC stink worse than Reptile’s acid breath.

2 DON’T WANT: MEAT

The Mortal Kombat franchise has many decent hidden characters, from Jade to Reptile. These characters often end up being added to the champion roster. However, Meat isn’t one of them. Introduced in Mortal Kombat 4, he is literally a walking slab of meat: he doesn’t have any skin, and one eye is hanging out of its socket. He was one of Shang Tsung’s experiments, but he escaped before Shang Tsung could complete him, hence his gross appearance.

Meat doesn’t deserve to be part of MK11’s DLC, or any future Mortal Kombat title, for that matter. He was an experiment which failed, and he should stay that way.

1 DON’T WANT: MOKAP

Just by looking at him, you can tell that Mokap doesn’t belong to Mortal Kombat; he’s basically a regular guy in a motion capture suit with balls all over him. Mokap appeared in Deadly Alliance as a joke, basically; even his name is simply a shortened version of “Motion Capture”.

He was based on Carlos Pesina, a key developer of Mortal Kombat who has been around since the first game. While it's impressive and a bit touching, the joke hasn’t aged well, so Mokap would be a poor idea for a DLC character in Mortal Kombat 11.
