Frost is confirmed as the only unlockable character in Mortal Kombat 11.
Mortal Kombat 11 released on Tuesday, April 23rd, but the day before, Midway dropped one more bombshell on expectant MK fans. The last character to join the Mortal Kombat 11 roster was none other than the rogue female ninja, Frost.
Frost made her big debut in the fifth Mortal Kombat game, Deadly Alliance, way back in the heady days of the PlayStation 2-era. The apprentice of Sub-Zero, her freezing powers were unmatched except by Sub-Zero himself, and it was believed she was being groomed to take over the Lin Kuei clan.
Unfortunately for her, Frost’s ambition was greater than her patience. Rather than wait for her time to ascend to the rank of grandmaster, Frost stole Sub-Zero’s Dragon Medallion and declared herself the leader of the clan. Then the medallion cooked-off her freezing powers, causing them to rage uncontrolled until she turned herself into a giant human popsicle.
After Deadly Alliance it was assumed she had died, but then it turns out in Mortal Kombat: Unchained that she’s alive and well and has a real grudge against Sub-Zero. So she returns to the clan to do battle with the grandmaster but again winds up a frozen statue. Sub-Zero then places her deep in the temple to never be heard from again.
Only she gets let again in MK: Armageddon, and then tries to stop the peace treaty between Scorpion and Sub-Zero in MK X by attacking Scorpion. Once again, Sub-Zero saves the day by freezing her solid. At this point in Mortal Kombat history, Frost seems to be a bit of a running gag.
But no longer. In the reveal trailer, it looks like Frost has decided to go along with the Lin Kuei’s cyberization project and turned herself into a cyborg. She then forcibly turns Sub-Zero into a cyborg by freezing him, removing all the fleshy bits, and then taking his brain and spine and placing them into a cybernetic body.
You can unlock Frost by playing Mortal Kombat 11’s story mode. MK 11 is out now on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
