Since his introduction as Bi-Han, the first Subzero, in Mortal Kombat and later the infamous secret character in Mortal Kombat II Noob Saibot has been a popular character through out the Mortal Kombat series. This vile assassin is an iconic member of the game and his dark appearance and shadowy teleportation skills have drawn fans to him for years.

For those wanting to conquer their enemies with this sinister fighter in Mortal Kombat 11, there are some basic tips and combo guides to get beginners started with one of the most fascinating characters in the game.

10 Don’t Be Normal

The first mistake beginners will make with Noob Saibot is treating him like any other fighter. Noob Saibot is not a brawler by any means and his normal attacks are very weak and very lacking. Even the developers made a point to mention that Noob Saibot is a special move character and should be treated as such.

The key to succeeding as Noob Saibot is learning his special moves and leaning heavily upon them in combat. Sure you can throw a punch or uppercut here and there, but it should always be to exploit an opening or to get something special started, not as a go-to attack plan.

9 Embrace The Chaos

Continuing on the earlier statement, Noob Saibot is perceived by many fans as a troll-type character. In the right hands he is unpredictable, everywhere and nowhere during fights, and many moves are easily spammable.

Embrace the chaos of this character by being unpredictable, even random, in your attacks and combo openings. Once your opponent becomes familiar with your strategies start shaking things up and catch them off guard, clever players can even train their opponents to automatically block or duck in response to attacks early in the match thus opening them up for the real attacks that will come later.

8 Shadow Clones Are Your Friends

Playing as Noob Saibot without using his shadow clones is like getting into the boxing ring without any hands. These are his main tools in combat and you should be using them excessively. They allow Noob Saibot to attack from multiple angles, surprise opponents who get too close, and make him unpredictable.

The game’s mechanics even incentivize you to use Noob Saibot’s shadow clones by giving a crushing blow bonus if the player manages to land 10 attacks using the shadow clones. So get in their and start summoning that shadow twin.

7 Keep Your Distance

Yes, this was mentioned before in Don’t Be Normal, but it’s so critical to Noob Saibot’s survival it bears mentioning again. He is not a normal fighter and as such will die quickly if he fights in close quarters. Noob Saibots moves work better from a distance, his ranged projectiles do hefty damage, and he possesses useful moves designed to move him around the arena or keep enemies at bay.

It’s in your best interest to keep the enemy at arm’s length to unleash your combos and devastating shadow attacks. So don’t be afraid to dance around the arena with your teleportation skills to maintain that seperation.

6 Moves For That Personal Space

Two useful moves Noob Saibot possesses to keep his enemy at a distance is the Dark Push and the Shadow Tackle. Dark push is a mid attack that will knock enemies away if they get too close. To perform Dark Push press Back + Triangle.

Shadow Tackle summons a shadow to perform a tackle against an opponent while you stay put, which is great for giving yourself some distance or punishing enemies from afar. To bulldog the enemy with your shadow press Back, Front, then Triangle. It should also be noted that getting ten clone attacks will trigger the bonus for Crushing Blow the next time you use a Shadow Tackle.

5 Combo Extenders

As a special move fighter, Noob Saibot shines with extended combo chains that can disorient opponents and deal massive damage. There are two moves in particular that are helpful for extending combos and opening them up for further punishment.

Wailing Wraith is a four strike combo that tosses the opponent into the air, though be careful if the enemy blocks any part of this combo. To perform the Wailing Wraith press Forward + Triangle, Triangle, Square and then Triangle.

Tele Slam is another useful attack that can cancel moves, grab enemies from the air, and open them up for combos. To do this crazy move simply press Down then Up and your enemies will enter a portal nightmare.

4 Anti-Air Moves

Noob Saibot has some helpful attacks to disrupt an opponent’s aerial maneuvers and can also act as combo finishers if the opponent is airborne because you put them there.

Sickle Snag is done by pressing Down, Back and then Square. Noob Saibot will reach up with his sickles and snag the enemy before ripping them to the ground, it's impossible to block too. If Noob Saibot is airborne when he does this move it becomes a teleportation maneuver where he jumps to wherever the sickle is thrown.

Rising Shadow Kick is a simpler move to perform, but no less brutal. By pressing Back, Front and then Triangle Noob Saibot lunges upward with a powerful kick that knocks airborne enemies back and disrupts incoming attacks.

3 Empty Grave/Tormented Souls Switch

Mortal Kombat 11 is all about reading opponents and reacting appropriately in battle. A good way to learn to do this effectively with Noob Saibot is by learning to switch between Empty Grave and Tormented Souls when needed. Tormented Souls is a great move to start off combos, but it becomes punishable if the enemy manages to block. Empty Grave on the other hand is a great punishing move, though it can be negated if the opponent ducks the first attack.

Tormented Souls is Square, Square, X. While Empty Grave is Square, Square, Triangle. With both combos starting out the same you can switch based on what your opponent does. If they block the first two attacks, punish them with Empty Grave. If the first two attacks strike the target then start a combo chain with Tormented Souls.

2 Sneaky Evil Twin

A great example of how to be unpredictable and sneaky with Noob Saibot is a technique that fakes the Evil Twin with a move called Sneaky Saibot. Evil Twin is a combo that starts as a roundhouse with four hits and can open up a combo chain, to do this press Back + Square, Triangle, Square, Circle. It does however become easy to predict and you’ll find opponents blocking and dodging the combo as time goes on. This is when you make the switch.

The Sneaky Saibot combo looks almost the same but is a faster sweeping kick that’ll catch the opponent completely off guard when they try to block or dodge the Evil Twin move. To do this press Back + Square, Triangle, and Forward +Circle. It’s a great way to practice being devious and is a lot of fun when you surprise the enemy.

1 Be Patient

Noob Saibot is by no means a beginner friendly character and there is a steep learning curve to fighting effectively with him. There’s a lot of combos to memorize, distance management, exploiting opponents' weaknesses, reacting quickly to combo interruptions, learning to chain combos and more, all of which take time even for experts.

You will likely lose a lot of fights at first and find yourself spamming projectiles desperately to stay alive. But if you’re patient and take the time to learn how to play Noob Saibot properly, you’ll be rewarded with an unpredictable fighter who will turn Mortal Kombat 11 into a rage game for your foes.
