It looks like Mortal Kombat 11’s progression loop is about to get the readjustment that it desperately needs.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out today, and thus far, the reviews have been pretty kind. The gory game has received plenty of praise in reviews for its violent gameplay, as well as a story that goes through decades of Mortal Kombat history. However, the one thing that the game is currently receiving heavy criticism for is undeniably its progression system.

Mortal Kombat 11 has been declared far too grindy for most, requiring players to have to continually run through the Towers Of Time mode to unlock unique rewards. Some of the fights in the Towers Of Time can have certain modifiers that can make things too difficult. In order to complete some challenges, certain types of gear are required, and acquiring that gear is determined by the cruel gods of RNG, or luck. As a result, progressing in the game is currently way less fun than it should be.

This has left fans feeling very critical of the game, theorizing that things have been set up this way in order to encourage players to buy tokens in order to unlock things quicker and more easily.

Thankfully, it sounds like the developers at NetherRealm have been listening.

During one of their Kombat Kast livestreams on Twitch, NetherRealm's Community Manager, Tyler Lansdown, revealed that the company has taken in all the feedback, and they are currently working on a solution. They’ve acknowledged that there are issues with progression, but it seems like it’ll be a relatively easy fix to get things to where they should be.

In fact, whatever NetherRealm has to do to improve the experience of playing Mortal Kombat 11, it seems like it won’t require a major overhaul. The developers seem pretty confident that all they’ll need to do is adjust some numbers to improve the reward drops. If that’s the case, then there shouldn’t be a need for a massive patch.

Ed Boon, the Creative Director of NetherRealm and occasional Scorpion voice actor, even took to Twitter to assure fans that these changes were coming ASAP. While a timeframe hasn’t been given for these fixes, Boon’s tweet declared that he was “hoping/expecting it’ll be more like HOURS than days.

It seems like NetherRealm has put a lot of skill and effort into this game, so to have them quickly address fan complaints shows there was also a lot of passion involved in its creation, which is pretty incredible considering that this is the 11th installment of a long-running franchise.

That being said, it still remains to be seen how this problem will be rectified. Hopefully, the solution improves the rewards and progression loop to the point that Mortal Kombat 11 becomes an even better package than it currently already is.

Mortal Kombat 11 is currently out on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
