So, it’s been about a week since NetherRealm Studios treated us to the Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate trailer that revealed Mileena, Rambo, and Rain as the next three characters. They’ll all be available as DLC characters coming in Kombat Pack 2, which Ultimate buyers will get instant access to.

It also means that it’s time to get a closer look at all three of those DLC characters, and it looks like we’re starting with Rain. A former prince of Edenia before he betrayed his noble brethren, Rain is a demigod with immense power over water and lightning. He also got started as a complete red herring. Although Rain was visible in a certain game mode in Mortal Kombat 3, he wasn’t actually unlockable like Smoke or Ermac. The name, ancestry, and costume color was also a reference to the Prince song Purple Rain.

Rain's last appearance as a playable character was in 2011's Mortal Kombat. So what's new for the Edenian prince? Well, he's got a slightly more South Asian aesthetic thanks to a ninja garb that appears to be more ornate and robe-like. His hood also looks a bit more like the cloth windings of a turban. And if that wasn't enough, Rain wields a jamadhar, a type of push dagger from the Indian subcontinent.

In the trailer, Rain arrives from a dimensional rift from some sort of watery realm, and that water theme continues during the combat sequence. Rain makes waves, water balls, and roundhouse kicks that leave water droplets hanging in the air. On top of that, Rain also has the ability to create purple bolts of lightning and also uses his dimensional abilities to teleport.

At one point, Rain even turns himself aqueous in order to completely avoid attacks. Frankly, Rain looks like a menace thanks to extreme mobility via teleportation and an arsenal of ranged abilities.

As for Rain's Finisher, he creates a spinning blade made out of water that first cuts his opponent in half, and then into quarters. At the same time, a tempest strips him of his flesh and plucks out both eyes which eventually drop into a ball of water Rain summons in his hand.

With Rain's trailer out of the way, we can expect Rambo and Mileena to appear over the next two weeks, followed by MK11: Ultimate's arrival on November 17.
