NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice 2 has been out in the wild for almost two months now. The fighter was well-received by critics, who gushed over its flashy visuals, reworked mechanics, and excellent story (not that fighting games are known for their intricate plots).

Fans are still enjoying the super fun, dramatic, and combo-heavy gameplay. Microtransaction shenanigans and frustrating RNG-based loot drops aside, there’s so much to love for this game from the community. Fighting games are expected to have a long lifespan, though, so NetherRealm can’t rest on their laurels for a moment, and a steady stream of new content is in the pipeline.

This time last month, the first DLC character, Red Hood, arrived in the game. Some players had issues downloading him, and many more had issues figuring out this complex combat once they had him, but there he was. Prior to his launch, NetherRealm explained that they’d be staggering releases of the DLC characters, and now it’s time for another. Now, the next fighter is here, and it's none other than Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero.

It’s no surprise to see this guy here, of course, Mortal Kombat being NetherRealm’s baby and all. The icy ninja will be available to play from July 11, 2017. If you own the first character pack or the deluxe version of Injustice 2, he’ll unlock automatically for your playing pleasure.

Injustice 2 Sub-Zero Hitting Character Back With Ice Powers

In a recent installment of the Watchtower Injustice stream, the devs treated us to a quick showcase of how Sub-Zero will play. That fancy hammer move aside, he plays very similar to the Sub-Zero that players will be familiar with from Mortal Kombat X. Now that’s a super move, right there.

PREVIOUSLY: THE MOST GRUESOME MORTAL KOMBAT FATALITIES

The fighting genre is full of real love-them-or-hate-them characters, and nobody quite defines that polarity like Sub-Zero. Playing against him can be a real nightmare, regardless of your experience with his zoning, ice clones, projectiles and all the other unique abilities that make him tick. There are players in the Mortal Kombat community who will instantly back out of a game if they see the opponent choose the Cryomancer, and that probably tells you all you need to know.

As much of a pain in the ass as he may be, the Lin Kuei leader is a huge deal in the Mortal Kombat world. He’s the only combatant who has appeared in every main series release, and is close to NetherRealm’s heart as a result. With Ed Boon at the helm, his appearance in Injustice 2 was kind of inevitable. How he’ll be received, and how he’ll stack up against the likes of Aquaman, Batman, and the rest of the DCU remains to be seen. For now, deluxe edition and character pack owners, why not give him a try and see what you think?
