Mortal Kombat continues to show us why, even after almost 30 years, it is not only one of the most popular games of all time, but why it is a franchise that can continue to successfully transcend beyond video games. This morning an exclusive trailer was released on the YouTube channel for IGN for Warner Bros. Animation's new film - Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.

The new feature-film serves as a sequel to Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge. It will center around the heroes being attacked by Shao Kahn (voiced by Fred Tatasciore), who is leading Raiden (voiced by Dave B. Mitchell) and his warriors and forces them into a deal to “compete in a final Mortal Kombat that will determine the fate of the realms." The good guys must then head to the Outworld to defend the Earthrealm. At the same time, Scorpion goes on a quest to locate the Kamidogu, an ancient mystical relic, before it is used to resurrect the One Being, who wants to destroy the entire universe. If the trailer is any indication, fans of the blood-ladened game should expect all the brutalities and fatalities that they have come to know and love.

Cast members from Scorpion's Revenge will be returning including Jennifer Carpenter (Limitless) and Joel McHale (Community) returning as Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage, Debra Wilson (Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart) as D’Vorah, Patrick Seitz (Mortal Kombat X) as Scorpion and Jordan Rodrigues (Hawaii Five-0) as Lui Kang.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realm will be released on digital, Blu-ray, and a 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack on August 31, 2021. Preorders began on June 28 for both the Blu-ray and the 4K Ultra Combo Pack, while the preorder for the digital version will begin on July 8. The Blu-ray disc will be available for $29.98 and comes with the movie in hi-definition and with a digital code for the movie. The 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack includes an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc in 4K with HDR, a Blu-ray disk and a digital version for $39.99.
