After the failings of the Xbox One in 2013, the Xbox Series X is off to a hot start as Microsoft's latest gaming hardware. Both Xbox Game Pass and backward compatibility allowed the launch of the console to sustain itself despite the heart-breaking delay of Halo: Infinite.

These days Xbox has a roster of talented developers and fans can't wait to see what they've been cooking up. In the coming years, Xbox hopes to entice gamers with the following games that are the most anticipated for the Xbox Series X, according to Google Trends.

10 Gotham Knights

Gamers and superhero fans alike have been waiting since 2015 for a new Batman game and WB Montreal is hoping to deliver in 2021. Their game, Gotham Knights, puts a focus on the Bat-family as they try and uncover what happened to Batman all while protecting Gotham City in his absence. The game focuses on single-player and two-player co-op gameplay and looks to be a live service title. WB Montreal has reiterated the game will hit in 2021, so fans won't have to wait long to get their dose of Batman video game goodness.

9 Avowed

When it was announced that Microsoft and Xbox would be acquiring accomplishing role-playing game developer Obsidian Entertainment, questions arose about what the studio's next game would be. Fans didn't have to wait long as their next project, Avowed, was unveiled during the Xbox Series X event.

It is a first-person RPG set in the world of Pillars of Eternity and will likely be the largest budget game the studio has worked on since Fallout: New Vegas, a game considered to be the best entry in the entire Fallout franchise.

8 12 Minutes

12 minutes

Since its reveal, most people assumed 12 Minutes was going to be a neat art piece that functioned as a video game. The premise of reliving the same 12 minutes over and over again to save the ones you love is gripping, but how entertaining of a game could that be? In 2020 it was revealed that James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe would serve as the voice cast for the game. Publisher Annapurna Interactive morphed a promising indie game into a blockbuster artsy must-play experience almost overnight. The game is pushing for a release in 2021.

7 Fallout 5

With Bethesda Game Studios currently working on both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls IV, it's clear that Fallout 5 is years away. That is of course if people believe they're the only ones that would work on it. With Bethesda soon set to become a part of Microsoft there's a chance another one of Xbox's many accomplished role-playing game studios could get an opportunity. Either way, fans are hoping for a return to form for the franchise after the live service title known as Fallout 76 tarnished the brand for many of them.

6 Perfect Dark

The 2020 Game Awards didn't have many jaw-dropping announcements or reveals, likely a byproduct of the global pandemic and work-from-home complications. With that said, there were still a handful of smile-inducing things shown that have fans excited. The Initiative, Xbox's premier game studio, finally unveiled their first project. Perfect Dark is set to be a series reboot that will re-introduce modern gamers to Joanna Dark in a self-described "AAAA" gaming experience only world-class talent can deliver.

5 Resident Evil Village

Following the recent Resident Evil Showcase excitement, hype levels for Resident Evil Village are at an all-time high. The game is set to release on May 7th, 2021 in a year with little to no dates so far for major video game releases. Adding vampires and werewolves to the series seemed worrisome, but the new gameplay and narrative trailers unveiled at the 25th Anniversary event have fans curious and open-minded. The Resident Evil franchise has been on a hot-streak as of late and it seems like it will only continue.

4 Elder Scrolls 6

Starfield is Bethesda Game Studios' next planned release, so it's safe to assume that The Elder Scrolls VI is years way at this point. With Microsoft set to acquire Bethesda officially in the coming months, there is reason to believe that the financial backing of Microsoft could allow for a ramp-up in development.

Fans of the franchise have been dissecting the teaser reveal in hopes of figuring out where the next game takes place. It's unclear if Bethesda themselves won't reveal the official title until Starfield releases.

3 Elden Ring

With the reveal trailer of Elden Ring happening on the E3 Xbox Conference stage in 2019, FromSoftware's next title is closely associated with the Xbox Series X. The internet wants this game so bad and it's evident considering the amount of rumor mill chatter that's constantly surrounding this game. Fans are worried George R.R. Martin's involvement is the reason for the delay, but his contributions to the game wrapped up long ago. Don't be surprised if Elden Ring re-reveals itself in 2021 and releases only a few short months later.

2 Far Cry 6

Far Cry is a franchise that never really reviews exceptionally well, but when it comes to casual gamers it sells extremely well. The games do a great job of providing players with a wild and crazy antagonist that's more often than not quite memorable. Far Cry 6, slated to release in mid-2021, is doing exactly that with accomplished actor Giancarlo Esposito in the main villain role. It's unclear how good the game will be, but with someone that famous in the marketing, the game is once again set to fly off shelves.

1 Halo: Infinite

halo infinite

It's hard to find a game with more riding on its shoulders than Halo: Infinite. Not only does it need to bring Halo back into the mainstream, but it's expected to be the premiere titled for Xbox Series X in 2021 at the very least. The game was originally slated to launch alongside the next-gen console but has now been delayed an entire year. Fans understood the delay and part of that understanding is because the Halo community and gamers in general just want another Halo experience that resembles the franchise's glory days of excellence.
