In the vast lands of Calradia, Mount & Blade II Bannerlord players begin with a small amount of troops, and are quickly offered opportunities to jump into battle. Increasing one's party size is essential to leading larger armies.

Taleworlds Entertainment provides several ways for players to achieve this early on. The primary method to increase your party size is by raising your clan tier, which occurs by increasing renown from victorious battles. The amount of renown earned is controlled by a fairly straightforward system – the more complex the task at hand, or the more outnumbered you are in battle, the more renown you can achieve.

Looters provide the fastest path to early renown. This is much easier to achieve great renown when 20 or 30 troops can take on a larger looter army of 40 or 50. Things change quickly, with looter armies getting into the thousands; at the same time, Mountain Bandits, Sea Raiders, or Forest Bandits are much better equipped and should be approached with more caution.

Understanding clan tiers is important once players grasp the basics of how to achieve renown. The clan tier system provides important enhancements to your party size at each level. As a reminder, Clan Tier is displayed in the Clan menu in the top right corner of the screen. Renown level appears when you hover over the tier number.
