Sonic getting a live-action makeover and being in his very own movie is all well and good, but when are we going to see movie Sonic speed into the video game world?
2019 has been a big year for "fans" complaining about things they haven't even seen or played yet. Marvel's Avengers and Pokémon Sword and Shield are two big examples of that. The former caved and tweaked its designs, while the latter held firm and enjoyed just as successful a launch as it would have expected.
Despite the backlash from fans to the two games above, both pale in comparison to the reaction the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog received. To put it mildly, the live-action version of Sonic looked like he had been designed by someone who has never seen the blue hedgehog before, like they were just going off of a written description of the video game icon.
The original design was so bad that the release date was delayed so that it could be altered. That additional project has now been completed and there is even movie-related merch being released next month. However, since Sonic is a character made famous by video games, would it not make sense for live-action movie Sonic to have a video game of his own?
Plenty of people would play it, and it would do wonders for the release of Sonic the Hedgehog come February 14. If not a game of his very own, how about a title featuring movie Sonic? The first thing that springs to mind is Sonic Generations 2. Sonic Generations featured new Sonic meeting and working with the original version. In the sequel, the pair could reunite and add Movie Sonic to their ranks.
Should anyone want to add a further layer to that game, developers could make the original design of movie Sonic the game's primary antagonist. The chance of SEGA being that meta is very unlikely but it's a cool concept to think about. If the right people are reading this, forget about Dr. Robotnik in the next Sonic game and have the poorly designed live-action hedgehog wreak havoc on Emerald Hill and all of its inhabitants.
