Fans rejoice! Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel have been revealed as the newest playable characters in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order.

With only a few months until the release of the game, we are slowly learning who will make the cut of the final roster, which is looking to be over two dozen names long already with more characters expected to be named soon.

Ms. Marvel, the name shared among a few women, is first on our list. Joining the game will be the Kamala Khan variant. There is little surprise at the inclusion of this character, as she has been gaining popularity recently both in comics and other games. Last year she was added to the popular mobile game Marvel Strike Force, where her exaggerated animation of stretching and enlarging her body made for interesting fights, swatting entire groups of enemies at a time. If anything, she will be a heavy-hitting ally when the time comes to fight.

To the surprise of no one, Hawkeye was confirmed as joining the upcoming fight. What was surprising however was that it took so long to officially announce his inclusion, despite Avengers: Endgame having been the perfect marketing opportunity to tie into this game prior to its theatrical release. It will be interesting to see how Hawkeye is designed as a playable character in this game. Previous titles have made him almost entirely a ranged character, dishing out both damage and providing utility with a broad range of arrows. After Jeremy Renner's portrayal of the character in the recent films, we might see a staff-wielding version as well for close-ranged combat, similar to the fighting style seen in Captain America: Civil War

Much has changed in both the cinematic universe and comics since the release of the second game, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 in 2006. Much of the story in the new game releasing in July is expected to play heavily off of the Marvel Cinematic Universe developed over the past ten years. The main groups from which characters will join are the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Defenders, the Inhumans, and the X-Men, so far. Up to this point, gameplay looks similar to its predecessors, although players are still eagerly awaiting to learn what progression and end-game content is going to look like, hopefully in the near future.
