The holidays are a wonderful time to get together with your family and friends and catch up. 15 Ark

While Ark: Survival Evolved might be a bit too harsh for younger players, many older kids can enjoy the challenge it has to offer. Why not get mom and dad hooked on it, at the same time?

This dinosaur-themed survival series isn't nearly as much fun to play solo. Grab some family members and dominate the island, research new technologies, and build your fully customizable home overlooking a valley full of velociraptors.

14 Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing is responsible for getting many gamers absolutely hooked on its fantastic gameplay and charming visuals. It's also great if you want to bring some friends and family members along for the ride.

Party Play allows up to 4 people to play at once via wireless or online, which is a major draw on the strength of the Nintendo Switch. No sense going it alone when you can team up with your loved ones.

13 Minecraft

Gamers of all ages have been charmed by Minecraft's 8-bit visuals, addictive gameplay, and a focus on building new and artistic creations. Its runaway success is a testament to just how unique the game truly is, in a sea of same-old, same-old.

11 Family Fun Pack: Conquest Edition

If the prospect of shelling out hundreds of dollars for a ton of traditional board games doesn't appeal to you, there's always the digital option. The Family Fun Pack on Xbox One is a collection of all the greats - Battleship, Scrabble, Monopoly, and Risk.

Families can enjoy hours of fun either through remote multiplayer or local play, via a shared controller if required. There are a lot of options to spice things up as well, including AI opponents in case your friends skipped the party.

10 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The Mario Kart games are definitely a no-brainer when it comes to trying to find a multiplayer game to play with the family. These games allow players to pick one of their favorite Nintendo characters, customize a vehicle, and race against their family and friends or computer-controlled characters.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available on the Nintendo Switch and players can come together to play against each other. Four players can play against each other on a single Nintendo Switch or up to 12 players can join in if you've got multiple consoles and copies of the game all in the same room together.

Snipperclips is a couch co-op title that was released on the Nintendo Switch and supports up to four players. In this game, players have to work together to solve a variety of fun puzzles. Although this game is perfect for up to four players, it can also be played with just two or three if you don't have four family members that want to play together.

8 Don't Starve Together

Don't Starve Together is the multiplayer version of the game Don't Starve. In this game, players choose a character, each of whom has their own strengths and weaknesses, and are dropped in a world called The Constant. Players have to work together to build a base, survive against enemies, and not succumb to starvation or the elements.

Purchasing this game through Steam on the PC gives you a second copy of the game for free and players can join a server together on each of their own computers. If your family members didn't bring their laptops to the family get together, it's also available on PS4 where it has split screen co-op for two players.

7 Guacamelee

Guacamelee was originally released in 2013 on the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, but it was later released on other platforms like the PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This fighting game is inspired by Mexican folklore and culture and is a unique, colorful game that can be played with two players.

In order to play local multiplayer, players just need to make it through the initial tutorial of the game. It only takes a few minutes and then you'll have the option to grab a second controller, bring your favorite sibling, cousin, or other family member over to the couch, and get to fighting.

6 Rocket League

Rocket League is a fun and unique game that is popular among friends that want to play games together because of the fact that it has cross-platform multiplayer. But, if you're with your family members and want to play together on a single console, that's totally also possible. This game is available on just about any gaming console you might have and is a ton of fun for multiple people to get together and play.

To put it simply, Rocket League can basically be described as soccer, but with cars instead of people. It's quirky a ton of fun, especially if you're playing it with friends or family members. The game even has other modes that allow the players to use their super-powered cars to play games like ice hockey and basketball.

5 Just Dance

Just Dance is a series of games that really get the players up and moving. Instead of just sitting on the couch with a controller, the Just Dance games force the players to get up, pick from a list of catchy and popular songs, and start dancing!

These games show the player the moves that they need to imitate and then score players based on how well they replicated the moves.

4 Overcooked 2

Overcooked 2 is a challenging, but fun game that's available on multiple different platforms, including PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

These puzzle games have online multiplayer as well as couch co-op for people that are together and want to have some fun. Players take on the role of chefs who are in the kitchen, trying to cook up the dishes that customers are asking for. 3 Jackbox Party Pack

The Jackbox Party Pack isn't necessarily a single game, but rather a bundle of multiple different games that are perfect for playing at a party with your friends or family members.

There are multiple different Party Packs, each of which comes with a different selection of games, so you can pick the one that really sounds the most fun for the group you're spending the holidays with. The games can be played on a variety of different platforms and just use the mobile browser on a smartphone, so you don't need extra controllers or for everyone to download an app.

2 Lego Dimensions

LEGO has gone from just being building toys to being a huge franchise of video games. There are LEGO games based around basically every franchise you can think of, from superheroes to Harry Potter and just about everything in between. While just about all of these games are a lot of fun to play multiplayer, LEGO Dimensions is the best one to pick if you're spending the holidays with family.

The game is part of the toys-to-life trend and blends physical LEGO toys with the game. It has characters from a ton of different franchises and the blend of real-life LEGO toys and the video game format adds a lot of fun for kids and adults alike.

1 ARMS

ARMS is a Nintendo Switch game that was released in 2017. Unlike other fighting games, the characters in this game don't use weapons to battle against each other. ARMS is a super quirky 3D game in which the characters use their spring-loaded arms (or, in the case of a character named Twintelle, hair) to fight each other.

ARMS has local and online multiplayer, so players can each choose a character that they love and start playing. Even if there's someone visiting for the holidays that doesn't typically like fighting gamesARMS is silly and fun enough to be appealing. Just make sure you have a Nintendo Switch and not Switch Lite, so you can dock it and display the game on the TV.
