Previous reports that CD Projekt Red are working on multiple Cyberpunk games are false, according to the company.

Perhaps it was too good to be true. Yesterday, we found out that Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red had five teams working on various projects thanks to an interview between company president Adam Kiciński and Polish financial site Bankier. In the interview, Kiciński revealed that three of those teams were working on Cyberpunk projects, which Google Translate led us to believe that at least one of those projects was completely separate and in-fact a planned follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077.

Either Kiciński or Google Translate isn’t quite as good at converting Polish to English because CD Projekt Red has issued a clarification to yesterday’s report.

"We currently have a total of five teams working on a number of projects, with three focusing on the development of Cyberpunk 2077,” a CD Projekt rep told PC Gamer via email. “These include CD Projekt Red Warsaw and Kraków, who are handling the main game, as well as the Wrocław studio, where around 40 industry specialists are engaged in technology R&D.

"A separate, dedicated team at the Warsaw studio is handling the development of Gwent. The final team is Spokko, which is currently working on a yet unannounced mobile project."

So that fifth project we were hoping might be The Witcher 4? Definitely not Witcher 4, unless they plan to make the sequel on mobile.

This also means we’re not quite sure what’s going on with Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer. The expectation was that Cyberpunk’s multiplayer component was being worked on by one of those teams and that it would release after the main game as a stand-alone game mode, much like how GTA Online came out after the release of GTAV.

It’s possible one of either the Warsaw or Kraków teams are at least partially working on the game’s multiplayer, but it would have been nice to at least have confirmation from the rep.

One thing we do know: Cyberpunk 2077 releases on April 16th, 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
