MultiVersus' open beta has come to an end, despite most players seemingly not realising it was even going on in the first place. With little warning, MultiVersus will go offline on June 25, with a full launch set for "early 2024." However, considering how poor communication has been in recent months, and how vague that return date is, a lot of fans doubt the fighter will launch at all.

Fans have many reasons to believe this, but most are citing the extremely long break in between the beta and full release, something almost unheard of in the live service scene. Previously, MultiVersus showed no signs of taking a lengthy hiatus, with devs continuing to tease new characters and updates that would never come to pass.

Over on the subreddit, there isn't much optimism to be found. While some fans hold out hope that the extended hiatus will help MultiVersus relaunch in a better state, others don't believe that it's coming back at all.

"This game is not coming back," says Reddit user Back9Man, with many others in agreement.

"They took the money and ran," says Bacalacon. "And the community actually celebrate it as the best decision to make lmao."

Others predict that MultVersus will suffer the same fate as other Warner Bros. projects since its merger with Discovery, such as the Batgirl movie.

"Chances are WB can write it off like they have everything else at this point as long as they don't fully release the game," says OilEnvironmental8043.

Of course, if MultiVersus never actually returns, there will be a lot of disgruntled customers. Even now, with the devs saying the game will be back in 2024, some players are already asking for refunds, especially those who picked up the $100 edition around launch. However, the announcement of the closure also stated that existing refund rules would not be relaxed. Affected players will still be able to use their purchases in offline modes.
