This past week, the rumour mill has been fixated on one thing only: an apparent Smash Bros.-style fighting game starring the various characters owned by Warner Bros. We've followed all the developments, with various insiders claiming that this game is indeed in development, but this latest news is the first public acknowledgement we've got from WB itself.

The media giant has copyright claimed a supposed screenshot of the fighting game's character roster, removing it from YouTube just as it was gaining traction. The image was shared by longtime Super Smash. Bros pro player, Hungrybox, who claims to have insider knowledge on the project.

Warner Bros. was incredibly quick to act, as the video was down within the hour. While we cannot verify the contents of the video ourselves, it would be strange for the company to take it down if the renders were indeed fake, as this would essentially make them fan art. Due to this, fans are taking this as confirmation that the game is real.

However, it is worth noting that the game is still very much rumoured. The takedown may have been automatic and accidental, not an indication that the so-called "Multiversus" is in development at all.

Thankfully for anyone whose curious, Hungrybox's tweet about the game is still live. In the tweet, he shares the apparent screenshot from the game, revealing that the cast might include:

  • Steven Universe
  • Batman
  • Harley Quinn
  • Finn
  • Jake
  • Shaggy
  • Superman
  • Wonder Woman
  • Gandalf
  • Rick Sanchez
  • Bugs Bunny
  • Tom and Jerry

A crossover Warner Bros. fighting game wouldn't be the most surprising move from the company. Space Jam: A New Legacy was essentially one big "hey, look what we own" flex, as WB showed off all of its properties from The Matrix, Game of Thrones, Rick and Morty, and much, much more. Shoving all of these ultra-famous faces into the popular platformer fighting game genre makes a whole lot of sense.

Despite the takedown, Warner Bros. is yet to make a statement about the rumours.
