The realm of anime and manga has enticed fans from all over the globe to take a peek into what makes these Japanese forms of entertainment click. The sheer level of ideation that goes into creating the plots that drive these mediums of entertainment is nothing short of spectacular — a statement that is especially true for anime that have broken into the mainstream and endeared people all over the globe with a well-realized story, colorful cast of characters, and a world that any fan would want to live in... well, aside from the post-apocalyptic or dark fantasy ones, but you get my drift.

One such show that has broken the glass ceiling and became one of the most popular animated series of all time is Naruto. The world of the shinobi is so engrossing that fans from all over the world simply couldn't get enough. This fervor was especially palpable after the end of this legendary series — the demand for a sequel was so intense that Kishimoto actually gave in to this request and kickstarted a series by the name of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, a series that started around fifteen years after the events of Naruto: Shippuden.

However, while the events of Boruto are certainly quite noteworthy in every sense of the word, the fact of the matter is that there are a lot of events that happened behind the scenes in these fifteen years that warrant a further glance. Here are thirty such events that happened between Naruto: Shippuden and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations that you should know about.

30 The New Generation Of Ninja Is Born

Perhaps the biggest — and most obvious — change between Naruto: Shippuden and Boruto was the introduction of a new ninja generation. It's a generation that will bring with it its very own set of adventures that will rekindle the love we had for the former half of Naruto.

Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki are just a few of the many individuals who are an integral part of this new generation.

One can only wait and see the wondrous and fantastical adventures that will come about with the advent of this new age of young yet brilliant shinobi.

29 Obvious And Not So Obvious - Couples Are Formed

It's obvious that any series with a major time skip would give rise to a number of relationships. The seeds for these romances were placed pretty early — just take a look at the beautiful love that Naruto and Hinata share.

However, amidst all these favorable combinations, there's bound to be few bad pairings.

The best way to illustrate this point would be to talk about the befuddling pairing of Choji and Karui. Both of them have no chemistry whatsoever, yet for some reason, the creators thought that making them a couple was still a brilliant idea nevertheless.

28 Both Naruto And Sasuke Learned One-Handed Seals

via comicvine.gamespot.com

The final battle between Naruto and Sasuke is one of the best fights in anime history. It's an encounter that encompasses the entire journey that the viewer has gone through with both these characters, and culminates in a last-ditch effort by both combatants to put all their strength in one final desperation move.

This culminates in the loss of their dominant arm.

Before figuring out on a solution, both these people needed to get used to this newfound handicap. So, to prevent a dicey situation from arising in the first place, both Naruto and Sasuke decided to learn one-handed seals.

27 Sasuke Chose Not To Get An Artificial Limb

Of course, since the ninja world wasn't exactly lagging behind when it came to technology, both people were provided with the option of attaching an artificial limb. While Naruto accepted this offer, Sasuke refused.

No one really knows why this is the case, but certain assumptions can still be made. Perhaps Sasuke figured out the error of his ways and wanted to pay for it with a permanent disability. It's just one of the many factors that might've contributed to this decision.

The artificial arm that Naruto took as his own was made from the cells of Hashirama Senju. This helped further improve his stamina and health regeneration capabilities. However, if you think that's the only benefit, then think again.

After laying waste to Kinshiki, Naruto understood that scientific progress would play a key role in the times to come. So, he decided to get an upgrade and fitted himself with a limb that could absorb and neutralize an opponent's techniques.

This just serves to make someone as powerful as the Seventh Hokage even more of an imposing threat.

25 The Village Is Larger Now

via naruto.wikia.com

Fifteen years might seem like a short time to develop any place, but don't forget the fact that Konohagakure is a place populated with shinobi. So, it's almost a given that the village would witness considerable levels of development over time.

So, under the guiding hand of Kakashi and Naruto, the village became even larger and allowed for more people to stay in what can arguably be called one of the most prominent villages in the shinobi world — although, to be honest, we might be saying that just because Konohagakure got more screen time than any other shinobi village.

24 It Can't Exactly Be Called A "Village" Anymore

via naruto.wikia.com

However, to be very honest, calling Konohagakure a simple "village" at this point would be a gross disservice to the brilliant work done by Kakashi and Naruto to modernize the place as we know it.

What used to be a quaint and peaceful village has transformed into the pinnacle of commerce, with towering skyscrapers behind the Hokage Rock as urban infrastructure became the main focus of development in the city.

Of course, urban infrastructure isn't the only focus of Konohagakure's development — the sheer pace at which technology has developed in the shinobi world is nothing short of extraordinary as well.

To illustrate this point, just take a look at the fact that the Thunder Rail has been established in the village to provide people with a convenient means of transport. It's just one of the many ways in which the city has developed, but that's not even the half of it.

22 Screens Everywhere!

Yep, your eyes are not deceiving you — there's an actual computer on the Hokage's desk.

While people who've seen Boruto would find nothing odd with this picture, the people who've seen the original series would certainly find it somewhat bemusing to see this modern piece of technology is a world that should simply not have such innovations, to begin with.

However, that's not the only digital screen around — cellphones and billboards have also made their way into the Boruto universe, which is nothing if not surprising.

21 The Number Of Civilians Has Increased

While the ninja population in Boruto is still going strong, there's another development that needs to be mentioned here. As mentioned before, the village was thriving under the reign of the Sixth and the Seventh Hokage, which has resulted in a population boom as well.

However, a lower proportion of this population was gifted with chakra, which basically implies that the civilian count — you can call them non-ninja if you wish — has increased drastically.

20 Orochimaru Has A Synthetic Son Named Mitsuki

via naruto.wikia.com

Orochimaru was one of the most diabolical villains around, performing all sorts of horrible experiments without any regard for human life. His constant attacks on Konoha and the role he played in turning Sasuke into a reviled human being will always remain fresh in the minds of fans.

In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Orochimaru has definitely become quite complacent. However, his penchant to perform obtuse experiments hasn't died down yet. This can be seen in the fact that he genetically engineered a child by the name of Mitsuki, who is apparently a concoction of the most powerful ninja genes.

It seems that, with the advent of a new series, Orochimaru actually turned over a new leaf and is trying to redeem his actions in his own obtuse way. However, how can you give him a free pass, especially given the horrible things he's done in the past?

Anyway, let's put that aside for now — the focus of this entry is on the reestablishment of a village that Orochimaru set up, by the name of Otogakure. It's a major development for the character, which goes to show just how much these fifteen years have changed him.

18 Another Member Of The Ōtsutsuki Clan Planned To Wreak Havoc On The World

via naruto.wikia.com

After the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War, it seemed that things were back to normal for Konoha. However, it's obvious that some scheme or the other was being cooked up by a villain... and, guess what? This turned out to be precisely the case that everyone was fearing.

The villain, in this case, was another member of the now-infamous Ōtsutsuki clan — namely, Toneri Ōtsutsuki. With the belief that humanity had wasted the gift bestowed upon them by the chakra fruit, Toneri sought to teach these people a lesson in the most extreme way possible.

How, you ask? Well...

17 Toneri Planned To Have The Moon Crash Into Earth

via naruto.wikia.com

Trust me — when I said extreme, I definitely meant extreme in every sense of the word. It's one thing to hate someone, it's another thing to hate someone so much that you'd want to crash an entire celestial body onto them just to teach them a lesson.

However, it seems that Toneri's hate knew no bounds — such was his disdain for the human race that he was willing to go to such extremes. If it wasn't for the power of Naruto (along with a helping hand from Sasuke), then the Earth itself might've ceased to exist.

As if ending the world wasn't bad enough as is, Toneri also wished to take Hinata as his bride, much to the disdain of Naruto. In his first attempt to take Hinata, Naruto foiled Toneri's plans, and the latter was forced to steal Hanabi instead.

If that wasn't horrible enough as is, it's what Toneri did after this that was completely unforgivable — in a bid to obtain the Tenseigan, Toneri straight up stole Hanabi's freakin' eyes!

Jeez, Public Enemy No. 1 indeed.

15 Naruto Figured Out What Hinata Truly Felt About Him

Via: http://naruto.wikia.com

After Hanabi was taken, the council of Konohagakure decided to send a rescue team to bring her back. This team consisted of Sai, Naruto, Hinata, Shikamaru, and Sakura. As they tracked down the thief, the path led them into a cave with a genjutsu trap.

While under the effect of this trap, Naruto's face was wrapped by Hinata's scarf, allowing him to get a first-hand view into what Hinata truly felt about him. It was a wake-up call that stirred Naruto's dormant feelings towards Hinata as well.

14 Jutsu Became More Scientific

via naruto.wikia.com

We've already talked about technological advancements in the Naruto universe, and you can bet that these developments stretched over to to the point where artificial jutsu actually became a thing!

This is enabled through the Shinobi Gauntlet — a tool that could enable someone without even a hint of chakra to perform impressive jutsu with ease. The powerful applications of this tool can be seen in the fact that Boruto was able to conjure up entire tidal waves and immense balls of fire without even breaking a sweat!

13 The Shinobi Union Was Formed

via naruto.wikia.com

The Fourth Shinobi World War was one of the most traumatic events of all time, don't get me wrong on that. However, the aftermath of this war was supposed to usher in an era of peace, and — to an extent — it actually managed to accomplish that.

This can be seen in the formation of the Shinobi Union, which allows members from all hidden villages to bring forth their concerns in the hope of figuring out a solution that will benefit all parties. This union was made in an attempt to maintain the alliance between the hidden villages and prevent any future conflict from arising.

12 Kakashi And Naruto Became Hokage

Via naruto.wikia.com

It might seem obvious, but the fact that Konohagakure saw the ascension of not one, but two Hokage is something that should definitely be taken into consideration. After all, the ascension of Tsunade as Hokage was a bid deal, so why shouldn't this also receive the same pomp and fanfare?

We all knew in our heart that Naruto would become Hokage at some point or the other, but the fact that Kakashi also managed to achieve this distinguished honor was definitely a pleasant surprise as well.

11 Shikamaru Became Naruto's Advisor

Shikamaru in Naruto

One might call Naruto a number of things, but the last trait that anyone would associate him with is intelligence. It's quite a shame since Naruto has shown tremendous intellect in the heat of battle. However, regardless of what one might think, every Hokage would nevertheless require a right-hand man.

In the case of Naruto, this person was none other than Shikamaru Nara. While he might be incredibly lazy, the fact of the matter is that no one can doubt the fact that Shikamaru is the best person to be Naruto's advisor, simply because of his vast intellect.
