Cosmic Defenders - from indie game developer Fiery Squirrel - is officially available on Nintendo Switch as the first title under the Natsume Indie Program.

To celebrate the launch, a brand-new trailer was released showcasing the game’s fast-paced 2D action.

Cosmic Defenders is touted as a “2D fast-paced revolving shooter” in which players take on the role of unconventional heroes tasked with saving the universe from evil aliens. Players can compete by themselves or group up with up to four other players in the game’s Story Mode, with players protecting the sacred Tree of Life from the alien threat; Survival Mode, which tasks players with lasting as long as they can in each level while collecting coins to buy ability-buffing outfits; and Versus Mode, allowing players to compete against each other.

As the first game published under the Natsume Indie Program - which partners the family-focused Natsume with independent developers - there is an excitement for bringing Fiery Squirrel’s game to a wider audience, especially considering the developer’s desire is to create “meaningful games that are easy to understand and full of life;” a desire that Natsume shares with the games that it publishes.

"We are excited to have launched our first title in our Indie Program," stated President & CEO of Natsume, Hiro Maekawa. "This launch is even more exciting for Natsume, as it marks the first title we have launched worldwide simultaneously in North America, Europe, and Japan, where the title was developed."

Henry Fernández, the creator of Fiery Squirrel and its sole-developer, echoed that sentiment, stating, “I am very proud that Cosmic Defenders is the first title to launch in the Natsume Indie Program; Natsume's experience and knowledge was a huge help to me throughout development. The game's themes of cosmic cooperation and the power of nature were inspired by my experiences growing up. Whether playing alone or with others, I hope that players will have fun and feel empowered as they protect the galaxy.”

Cosmic Defenders is rated E for Everyone, and is available now on Nintendo Switch’s US eShop, UK eShop, and Japan eShop.
