To celebrate a big year for The Last of Us, Naughty Dog has shared a brand-new piece of concept art for the upcoming Factions sequel, which it hopes will "further excite" fans. With The Last of Us Part 1 and the HBO adaptation within the same 12 months of one another, it's been a pretty big year for The Last of Us. Naughty Dog seems well aware of this as it's kicked off the year with a reflective blog post that looks back on the series so far, as well as highlighting some of the things that are still yet to come.Related: What I’d Like To See From The Video Game Industry In 2023The most interesting part of the blog post comes in the form of a new piece of concept art for the untitled Factions sequel, making this the second look we've had so far. The concept art shows two soldiers walking through a destroyed city area (which is rumoured to be San Francisco) while looking up at a huge boat in the distance.

There isn't too much to take from the concept art, but it's interesting to note that it features two players walking next to one another, which could be implying a focus on cooperative play rather than the player versus enemy gameplay that we saw in the first Factions mode. Although the first piece of concept art featured some infected, this one focuses on two human characters.

It seems that we won't be waiting too long for more details, however, as the blog post reconfirms that we'll be hearing more about the Factions sequel in 2023. Naughty Dog said, "With a team led by Vinit Agarwal, Joe Pettinati, and Anthony Newman, the project is shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio, but one rooted in Naughty Dog’s passion for delivering incredible stories, characters, and gameplay. We first shared concept art of the project with you last year, and we hope this new piece of concept art below further excites you for what our team is working on."
