It has been reported that The Witcher's Netflix series could debut on December 20 following the streaming giant's announcement regarding a Q4 2019 release.
Netflix has confirmed that the show, starring Henry Cavill, will launch sometime in the final quarter of this year but it has not given a specific date as of yet.
The December date comes from a report off celebrity blog Recapped, and it's also been disclosed that filming for a second season will commence in either December 2019 or January 2020. While Netflix hasn't officially greenlit additional seasons, previous claims state that it is quite happy with the show and is prepared to allow multiple seasons.
"Mark your calendars! Hearing that the first season of The Witcher will be available to binge on December 20. Season two is also rumored to start filming in December or January."
To be fair, Recapped isn't exactly a reputable source, however, it's information on The Witcher has been pretty solid to date. It gained some credibility after breaking the news that Cavill would be playing Geralt and Anya Chalotra would be taking on the role of Yennefer. Where developments regarding the upcoming show are concerned, Recapped has mostly been way ahead of other publications.
Of course, this is all unofficial information and should be taken with a grain of salt. While Recapped could be afforded some slack based on previous reports that turned out to be correct, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is on point his time.
Whether or not it's released on December 20, The Witcher is poised for launch sometime during this year's last quarter and the first season will contain eight episodes.
As for the claims that Netflix is pleased with the show, they came from Geeks Worldwide's KC Walsh, who has grown a reputation as a dependable DC Extended Universe insider.
Sounds like @Netflix is very happy with #TheWitcher and we could see multiple seasons greenlit before season one airs or shortly after. Meaning Cavill’s schedule could be full for a while and more evidence Superman is behind him pic.twitter.com/DSnFjhAjrF— KC Walsh (@TheComixKid) December 19, 2018
So, we'll keep our fingers crossed that the rumors are true and The Witcher will be debuting on Netflix on December 20, 2019.
