NetherRealm Studios head Ed Boon has confirmed that the studio has no plans to reveal its next game at The Game Awards, meaning we'll all have to wait a bit longer to find out what it's working on next.

The Game Awards is nearly upon us and that means that it's time to start speculating about what games might be showing up during the big event. One studio that gamers seem particularly interested in finding out what they're up to is NetherRealm Studios, the developers behind Mortal Kombat and Injustice.

Those expecting to find out whether the studio is working on Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3 next week are going to be disappointed, however, as studio head Ed Boon has confirmed that it has no plans to reveal anything during the show, despite having done so for Mortal Kombat 11 four years ago (four?!).

In a surprisingly candid tweet, Boon said, "4 years ago at the Game Awards we managed to pull off a surprise announcement of MK11, which turned out great. Perhaps too great, as many assumed we'd repeat that trick for our next game. Thank you for the anticipation, but we're not ready to announce the next NRS game yet".

Although it's a shame that NetherRealm won't be showing anything at The Game Awards, it's good of Boon to squash any kind of speculation before the show to keep expectations in line. Fans of the studio's work will just have to wait a little bit longer to find out what they've been working on for so long.

In fairness, this isn't the first time that Boon has confirmed that the studio won't be showing anything in 2022. Just two months ago, Boon confirmed that nothing about Mortal Kombat 12 would be announced during the series' 20th-anniversary celebrations. Boon also confirmed that the next game from the studio is either Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12, so we can at least narrow it down to those two.
