FromSoftware has just shown off 15 minutes of Elden Ring action, showing horseback riding, returning Dark Souls spells, co-op, and much more. There's a lot to unpack, but this Souls spiritual successor penned by none other than Game of Thrones writer George R. R. Martin is shaping up to be a hit.

The trailer opens with a knight looking toward the giant spiritual tree - not long after, we get to see the replacement for bonfires. They're little mounds of dirt marked by glowing yellow runes. These are called "Places of Rest" that function much the same as lanterns or arch stones. From here, you can use Grace to manifest guides of light that lead you to your objective. Or you can pick where you want to go and mark it on the map, placing a giant beaconing light in the game's world.

We get to see the player dotting about Elden Ring's map on horseback and foot, even sneaking about with the new crouch feature. There's a glimpse at a swamp, an enemy encampment with a carriage ripe for robbing, and a giant dragon lurking in the wilderness. The map is filled with fragments while you can place your own custom markers - there is a variety to choose from and each has a limit of 100 uses. While travelling, you can also encounter Spirit Springs which are geysers of air that propel you up ledges.

Sorcery is on full display in the new footage, too. We get some returning favourites like Soul Stream, Greatsword, and the standard arrows, but there are some nifty new ones. For instance, you can summon blue clouds that rain soul arrows and even spirits that will fight for you. They aren't players - they're ghastly figures that will assist you in tackling larger crowds.

But you can summon other players. There's co-op, PvP, and invasions. The separating of PvP and invasions might point to arenas being in the game as every Dark Souls has had one. Although two were DLCs. As for summoning, gestures are back and we hear a player saying "Hey!" This might be an item or a gesture like in past games or it could be an entirely new feature.

There are also numerous NPCs to find and we get to see a few in this footage. The Siegmeyer archetype is one that FromSoftware has used time and time again - they're the Onion Knight that constantly needs our help through their journey. We get two different characters like that in Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, but this time around, we get a giant talking pot who we find literally stuck in the mud. To get them out, you smack their backside.

A few others are shown that help us on our journey and we even can reply to them with dialogue options, something new to the series. Importantly, there's a woman in a black robe and hood with a missing eye - she's mysterious, but she could easily be the Maiden in Black or Firekeeper archetype. Speaking of, we get to see the healing item which appears to be a juice of some kind not unlike the Estus Flask.

Other returning items we see are things like the Wolverine claws, chests, illusion walls, parrying, ripostes, poise system, fog walls, weapon arts, resin, and more. You can even craft certain items with resources found in the world, things like arrows.

Finally, the trailer shows us one of the Demi-God boss fights. They're an old man made of arms. They have long white hair, two big axes, and a dragon head for a left hand. Given that we see a player using an item that summons a dragon head that breathes fire, it's likely that the boss will reap rewards that we can use in combat.
