Fire Emblem Engage is right around the corner, launching on January 20, 2023, and it's bringing with it several fan-favourite characters. They're returning as summons who will aid you in battle via magical rings, and a new trailer has just shown off Lucina, Ike, and Roy.

Lucina debuted in Fire Emblem Awakening. She's Chrom's daughter, AKA your - the protagonist's - kid. Lucina later appeared in Heroes and Warriors, voiced by Abby and Mary Jane Watson actor Laura Bailey, but she was later voiced by Alexis Tipton who played Julia Crichton in Fullmetal Alchemist and Pascal in NieR: Automata. She will be returning for Engage.

Ike, meanwhile, is the main character in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, resurfacing in Radiant Dawn as a main character. And finally, we have Roy, the self-described "not particularly smart" protagonist of The Binding Blade, son of The Blazing Blade protagonist Eliwood. He's appeared again in Awakening and Heroes, voiced by Final Fantasy's Noctis actor Ray Chase.

Throughout the trailer, we also see more of Alear, Engage's protagonist. They've been asleep for 1,000 years, and are finally awoken at the start of Engage. Taking note from Byleth, you can choose Alear's gender at the start of the game, and both choices are made distinct by their half-blue, half-red hair.

In fact, Alear was made by a VTube designer called Mika Pikazo. She's worked on avatars for VTubers like Hakos Baelz, Kaguya Luna, and Pinky Pop Hepburn. So while you're out there fighting the good fight, you can enjoy knowing that Alear is a VTuber in spirit. Maybe they run a little Twitch stream on the side when they're not sleeping for 1,000 years, or maybe that's what they streamed.

Aside from Ike, Roy, and Lucina, we know that Marth, Celica, and Sigurd are also returning. However, at the end of the trailer, Alear is toyed with after it's revealed that Emblems (the ring summons of old characters) can be used by the villains as well, meaning that some fan-favourites might be turned against them. We see as much when Marth turns to the dark side, signified by their hair turning red. The final shot shows them standing among burning ruins: "Everyone you care about, they're all dead."
