There's a new Mass Effect game in the works. We've known about it for a little while now as concept art from last month shows the very earliest stages of development, but now that we have a fancy teaser trailer, it's very much confirmed.

The teaser is pretty much what you'd expect: about a minute of the camera zooming through the universe with some long-distant radio bursting sounds of humanity's great scientific accomplishments leading up to becoming a space-faring species. And then sounds of the Reaper invasion, their iconic horn, and giant laser beams.

But then things get interesting. We see the wreckage of a mass relay and several ships before the Mud Skipper lands on an icy world. A woman picks up wreckage bearing the N7 logo from what appears to be a dead reaper before turning to the sun and her companions. Her hood floats back and we see it's Liara, the asari researcher.

Since Liara isn't glowing green with cyberpunk-style designs, we can only assume that the canonical ending of Mass Effect 3 was not Synthesis, so that leaves Control and Destroy. Given the fact the wreckage appears to be that of a Reaper ship, we're gonna go with Destroy as the true ending of ME3.

”A veteran team at BioWare is in the early stages of what is on the horizon for the Mass Effect franchise,” reads the video description, “and we are excited to show you where we’ll be heading next!”

It sure does seem like the next Mass Effect is going to somehow tie together Mass Effect Andromeda and Mass Effect 3, but we still have no idea how. Liara's presence isn't that much of a clue since the asari can live to be thousands of years old.

Previously revealed images show the spaceship featured in the trailer as well as Remnant architecture and a new Mass Relay. This new Mass Effect might be far into the future when Andromeda and the Milky Way are united.

But if you prefer to relive the golden age of Mass Effect, EA is promising a remastered trilogy arriving sometime next spring.
