The worldwide sensation that is Naruto just keeps growing, and now fans of the series can sink their teeth into a new mobile game called Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes, launching in winter of this year.

Naruto is a worldwide acclaimed manga and animation series that was first published as a pilot by Masashi Kishimoto in 1997. From there, a full-fledged manga series would be created, with the first story arch lasting fifteen years from 1999-2014. During that time the first animated series related to the manga would be created, spanning five years and encompassing 220 episodes. Within ten days of its end, Naruto: Shippuden, the second animated series, would begin, lasting ten years and airing five hundred episodes in total. The worldwide popularity of the series has led it to be licensed in over ninety countries and has had multiple video games released as part of the franchise as well.

The last main series video game, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, was released in February 2016 to relatively strong reviews, and sold just over 3 million copies worldwide. Now, after multiple mobile releases, consumers have the chance to enjoy yet another title from Bandai Namco this winter entitled Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes.

With the immense popularity surrounding the series, it makes a lot of sense for Bandai Namco to release another mobile game, especially given that the demand for smartphone games is on the rise. If this title takes off and does well commercially, it may cause other developers to focus more on mobile platforms.

Details on the next title can be found on the official YouTube channel of Bandai Namco. Within the short teaser trailer, we are greeted with various artworks that look as if they are torn from the pages of the manga itself. Additionally, we get a glimpse at what some of the battle sequences within the game will look like, with the developer showcasing the use of both moving images and short animation during combat. Players form teams of three as they battle it out in a cooperative environment. Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes will be made available this winter for smartphones/mobile, as well as on the PC in the form of a browser game.

Through the information released so far, it's clear that Bandai wanted to create a game which used all the elements from both the manga and animated series. The addition of co-op play is also a nice touch as it will help to grow the community once the game is officially released.

While some may see mobile games as a fad, the increase in smartphone technology has led many developers to strongly consider the platform. As hardware and software improve on smartphones, we may soon see an era where major triple-A titles also grace our handheld devices.
