The Pokémon Company has announced a new series of animated shorts set in the Galar region. Titled Pokémon: Twilight Wings, the series will be landing on YouTube on January 15th.
The series is animated by Studio Colorido, the company behind the wonderfully designed Penguin Highway — if you’ve never heard of it, take a look at its beautiful trailer. Studio Colorido is an excellent choice to bring the Galar region to life in a completely unique way. The studio is known for its warm and inviting art style that's created with some truly unique imaging techniques. Seeing Galar’s rolling hills depicted in this art style should be an absolute treat for viewers.
The only image released for the series so far illustrates two children on a bench overlooking a town sprawled out below them. There also appears to be a large white building in the background that one kid is pointing at... wonder what that could be?
Not only does the art style differ from Sword & Shield, but the story is new as well. The seven-episode series will examine, “…the dreams of Galar’s residents, the realities they face, the challenges they must overcome, and the conflicts they must resolve.” Of course, we can expect to see some familiar Pokémon that were introduced to players in Sword & Shield, but beyond that Twilight Wings looks to be a completely new story.
The episodes will be short — clocking in at around 5 minutes each — but are sure to give fans of the series some quality content to be excited about. However, Pokémon: Twilight Wings is separate from Pokémon the Series, so don’t expect to see any familiar faces. Beyond that, not much is known about where the story will take us. Will each episode feature a new character? Will we learn more about the Darkest Day? Is this set before or after the events of Sword & Shield?
For now, fans will have to be patient. Thankfully, there is little over a month until we can get our eyes on the first short in the series. In the meantime, keep playing Pokémon Sword & Shield, watch Penguin Highway, and prepare for a great new entry in the world of Pokémon.
Pokémon: Twilight Wings will begin on January 15th. It will be available on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.
