It was confirmed this week that New Pokemon Snap will take place in the all-new Lental region, so does that mean we might discover some new Pokemon too?

Last year, Pokemon revealed that it was finally getting set to release a sequel its fans have been waiting more than 20 years for. New Pokemon Snap is coming to Nintendo Switch, and now we know when. A new trailer for the game dropped this week revealing that New Pokemon Snap will be available from April 30, 2021.

Various new details were also revealed. You will team up with Professor Mirror before traversing a brand new region, the Lental region. Since trainers will be exploring a world they have never previously been to, it makes sense that some would have made the assumption that we might well be introduced to a few new Pokemon.

That assumption certainly makes sense for some very obvious reasons. Judging by what we have seen of New Pokemon Snap so far, and the setting for the original game, the Lental region is a paradise where Pokemon live in harmony. Trainers will traverse through the wilderness, snapping pics of every Pokemon they see. All of that could logically result in someone stumbling across a previously undiscovered Pokemon or two.

There has also been no word from Pokemon on when generation nine will be introduced, and how exactly it will be ushered in. It seems unlikely that New Pokemon Snap would be given the honor of kicking things off, but since generation eight is currently only made up of 88 Pokemon, it's also possible the newest gen is added to by discoveries made in the Lental region.

One other detail revealed about New Pokemon Snap this week suggests quite the opposite. The game will feature somewhere in the vicinity of 200 Pokemon. While that's more than three times as many were were included in the original game, it's obviously far fewer than the almost 1000 Pokemon to have been introduced so far. With such a limited number of spots up for grabs, it feels unlikely that any of them would go to a Pokemon trainers have never seen before.
