The new villain to appear in Sonic Forces has been revealed, and he is one scary dude.

Called “Infinite”, little is known about this mysterious and powerful foe. He appears to possess incredible power, is faster than Sonic, and able to bat him away with a single blow. On top of that, he can levitate, shoot red energy blasts from his hands, and summon strange, unidentified cubes of power that he can control with his mind.

As you can see from the trailer, he also looks just cool as his abilities would lead you to believe. He appears as black, glowing, fox-like creature, about Sonic’s height, but emanating power from every quill. It’s hard to tell what species he is since he seems to be wearing a mask with only one eye visible, the other being covered by the shape of a thunderbolt. The pointed nose and bushy tail seem to say fox, but the jagged, twisted quills on his back seem to make him out to be another hedgehog, albeit with a far more terrifying look about him than any of the other hedgehogs in the franchise.

Infinite is the latest of Dr. Eggman’s henchmen, along with Shadow the Hedgehog, Metal Sonic, Zavok, and Chaos. He’s described as “the tip of the spear” of Eggman’s armies, leading his forces in the conquest of Earth. With such a powerful warrior leading his army, how can Sonic hope to defeat the evil Dr. Eggman?

The story will be told from the perspective of three playable characters, each with their own unique style of game play. First will be Modern Sonic, who has game play reminiscent of Sonic Adventure, Classic Sonic, who will have 2-D sequences akin to the classic Sega Genesis games, and a brand new character known as The Avatar, a brand new player-created hero that will take a pivotal role in the fight for Earth.
