Everyone's favorite beater (and harem leader) Kirito is back in the newest Sword Art Online video game. Based on the latest arc of the popular manga and anime series, Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris will be released next spring. Link start!
The JRPG new title follows the currently-airing Alicization arc of the same name, and, in a departure from the typical nature of Sword Art Online video games, faithfully follows the same plot from the anime. Players take on the role of Kirito as he explores and becomes immersed in the mysterious, but unexplainedly familiar, "Underworld" where A.I.'s behave like humans.
In addition to intense battles, beautiful visuals, and a great new world to explore, fans of the anime will be pleased to know that they can expect to see many familiar faces, including Eugeo, Administrator, and of course, Alice.
Bandai Namco officially dropped the first trailer for the game earlier today. While the trailer shows some pretty accurate footage to the original anime, fans will notice there appear to be a few key changes from the anime to the game; namely the inclusion of Asuna and the appearance of a brand new character, Medina Orthinanos. However, the trailer also showcased some of the game's beautiful graphics and animations, footage of the various Underworld areas to explore, and, most importantly, Alicization Lycoris's official release date: March 22, 2020. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
The trailer and the game's release date was mistakenly leaked a few days ago when the official Brazillian and Latin America of Bandai Namco uploaded the trailer ahead of the official announcement, but the videos were soon taken down from both channels.
