Gearbox has unveiled the first trailer for New Tales from the Borderlands at Gamescom 2022, showing off its three protagonists - Anu, a no-nonsense scientist; Octavio, her eccentric brother, and Fran, a diner worker known for slinging frozen yoghurt. Or "Frogurt" as the game calls it.

Arriving on October 21, New Tales from the Borderlands is up for pre-order right now on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, both on Steam and Epic Games Store. The Standard Edition is $19.99 and the Deluxe Edition, which comes with the first game, is $49.99.

While there are a few over-the-top characters hurling out one-liners while gunning down robots like they're caped crusaders in an MCU flick, this isn't your usual Borderlands game. It's a single-player interactive narrative adventure, continuing on from Telltale's first. You can see it in action in the trailer below.

You'll be able to play as Anu, Octavio, and Fran, fighting back against a planetary invasion from Tediore, that intergalactic arms manufacturer we've bumped heads with in previous games. You probably know them from their iconic throwable guns in Borderlands 2 - the ones you lob at enemies instead of reloading.

And as for where they're invading, it's Promethea, which debuted in Borderlands 3. It's the home of Atlas HQ but, by Borderlands 3, it's mostly occupied by Maliwan forces. When we find it, it's already a chaotic warzone, which New Tales from the Borderlands looks to be continuing.

Interestingly, we aren't playing as Vault Hunters this time around. You're simply a few average Joes trying to keep your chin up as your home is ripped into by a greedy corporation, although Gearbox is keeping with Telltale tradition as in the first game, promising choices that will define the trajectory of the story.

If you decide to pre-order it, you'll get the Adventure Capital Pack which comes with in-game cosmetics for Anu, Octavio, and Fran, as well as 10,000 in-game currency and the FL4K Vaultlander collectable.
