New World's economy has been a bit of a mess lately, due in no small part to all the duping that is still taking place. Now, frustrated fans have had enough, and are calling on Amazon to start rolling out harsher punishments for players caught duping items and gold.

Players are taking to the New World subreddit to complain about duping, saying that the developers are not doing enough to combat the persistent problem. They say that 24 hour bans are simply not an effective deterrent, and allowing them to keep duplicated gold and items is damaging the economy.

"I was in a guild as a council member, and found out the entire officer team, council and governor were duping", says Reddit user Poliveris. "Myself and many others reported them; eight of them received 24 hour bans with zero repercussions."

After their ban, it appears players are allowed to keep the thousands of duplicated gold they created, as well as any powerful items. Clearly, it is not much of a deterrent if all you have to do is put the game down for a day, before returning to your overpowered account.

Multiple users say this is turning players away from the game. "Putting in 1000% more effort than someone else who got the same thing duped from someone else makes me not wanna play", says HDVaughan. User cblackbeard shares a similar experience: "Duping is the reason I stop playing. I wanted to play as a gather who just gather and sold to the market. And I spend 60 hours to make 20k while people can dupe to max account in like 10 minutes. Complete waste of my time."

Amazon has indeed made efforts to combat duping, going as far as disabling all wealth transfers and even character sever transfers when exploits were discovered. However, with players seemingly allowed to keep their "earnings" after a short ban, these fixes don't address the damage done to the economy, or the sense of progression for players who have not used these exploits.
