Fish Oil and Fishing are parts of New World that you will come across as you play through the main quest. New World is the brand new MMO from Amazon Games, which left Closed Beta at the beginning of August. Before the game's release, we're putting together a number of guides to help new players get started.
You will need Fish Oil to complete an early quest in the game, and it's not obvious how you get it. Don't worry. It's very simple. You just need to go fishing.
How To Get Fish Oil In New World

Getting Fish Oil is simple. You just need to catch fish. Once you have the Fish in your inventory, Salvage the Fish, and you'll have a chance to collect both Fish Oil and Fish Filet. Every type of fish can produce Fish Oil and Fish Filet.
However, to harvest these resources, you will need to know how to fish.
How To Fish In New World

Fishing in the early game is very simple. You just need to craft a basic Wooden Fishing Rod - with wood at a campfire - and to find a place where you can fish.
Fishing spots are marked on your map with one to three stars. They are discovered when you enter a new area or walk nearby. You will have to do a bit of exploration to find the different spots in the game.
Best Fishing Spots In The Early Game

One of the easiest spots to fish in the early game is located just east of Windsward, towards Primrose. It's close to where you will be picking up quests and town board missions and involves a lot less walking.
However, if you want a bit of variety, First Light has multiple fishing spots of both Broad (one-star) and Rare (two-star) levels for different types of fish. Here are the spots marked below on a map, thanks to mapgenie.io for the interactive New World map.
