Players have found lore within New World that attempts to explain why it doesn't have mounts - the animals are apparently too violent to be domesticated.

The lack of mounts within New World has been a pretty split topic for the community ever since it was first announced, especially with most other MMOs having some sort of faster mode of transport.

Well, those who are asking for mounts might find some comfort in the fact that New World does at least try and give an in-universe explanation as to why you won't be summoning horses to ride. It's a strange explanation for a game aiming to be fairly realistic, but an explanation nonetheless.

As reported by PC Gamer, Redditor Sketchit shared a document they'd found in-game which tries to address the issue in a light-hearted way. We think it's supposed to be light-hearted anyway, or it's just unintentionally silly.

It reads, "After a recent spate of back injuries, the doctors of Aeternum feel compelled to issue this warning to anyone who transports goods between settlements: Please remember that there are NO beasts of burden on Aeternum. No horse or donkey will pull your cart, carry your pack, or tolerate a rider. All efforts to domesticate or re-domesticate these animals have led only to injury and a lot of swearing".

The note continues, "Therefore it's important to transport ONLY as many goods as your own back can bear. Do not overburden your packs or carts. This is not the Old World. In Aeternum, we must all pull our own weight. Your joints will thank you".

Essentially, New World is saying that all of the potential mounts in the game are too violent to be domesticated and actively refuse to be used as transport by players. It's a pretty interesting reason to give, but we're more excited for when New World inevitably adds mounts into the game and has to find some sort of narrative reason as to why the horses are suddenly much tamer.
