A video of a Dallas news anchor went viral on Wednesday, when she claimed Superman was her favorite Marvel hero, and then proceeded to misquote him, using a famous Spider-Man quote instead. "With great power comes great responsibility", quoted WFAA news anchor Cynthia Izaguirre, after mentioning that her favorite Marvel hero was the Man of Steel. Anyone who is a fan of Spider-Man will recognize that famous inspirational quote from Peter Parker's Uncle Ben, and not from Superman. Not only was the quote never spoken by Supermanbut the hero belongs to DC Comics, not Marvel. Yikes.

In Izaguirre's defense, she is most likely tasked with talking about a large handful of stories each week, and coming up with entertaining dialogue each and every day while getting every single fact straight at the same time is probably harder than it looks. Still, to any fan of superheroes and comic books, the mistake she made certainly warranted a chuckle.

Before the blunder, Izaguirre was covering the auctioning off of costumes from a few of Marvel's recently cancelled Netflix shows, including Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. The three shows, especially Daredevil, received fairly high critical acclaim, and massive amounts of popularity. Daredevil's season 3 currently sits at an impressive 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and was considered by many to be one of the greatest superhero television shows of all time. Unfortunately, Netflix's rights on the Marvel properties are expiring, and everything with Marvel's name on it will soon be exclusively available on Disney's new streaming service, Disney+.

Despite not having a perfect track record when referring to superheroes, Izaguirre has made some pretty admirable contributions to the city of Dallas, TX, and is very popular amongst her viewers. She frequently produces and anchors news segments, called Wednesday's Child, that focus on finding safe homes for children who have faced abuse and neglect. She is also on the Board of Directors for TexProtects: The Texas Association for the Protection of Children. She has dedicated her life to protecting the vulnerable youth in her community, so it's safe to say she's earned a pass for misquoting Superman.
