Nexomon, a prequel to last year's Nexomon Extinction, is out now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox. The monster-catching RPG went live yesterday, with a launch discount of 10%.

But don't let the screenshots fool you - there is no way that this is a Pokemon inspired game. For one, there are seven starters to choose from, not three. You can also catch and evolve "over 300" Nexomons, whereas the most 'mons to be introduced in a single Pokemon game is 156. Checkmate, Nintendo.

Alright, jokes aside, we actually checked out its sequel, Nexomon Extinction, last year and thought it was really good. TheGamer's Sam Watanuki gave it 4/5, praising its "incredibly detailed world" and "interesting narrative". He also pointed out that it did separate itself from the genre.

Further differentiating it, there are actually "10 vibrant regions" to explore in the game. This is a bit more generous than Pokemon's offerings, which has peaked at two regions in a single game in the past.

This title - simply called Nexomon - actually originally launched in 2017. Until the PC port last year, it was exclusively available on mobile and had been downloaded over one million times, according to Google Play Store. While originally a free-to-play title (with a full version available to purchase), this re-release will cost £7.99 across all platforms.
