A few months later, leaked details of the game revealed Lara Croft would return to lead a younger generation of Tomb Raiders to ward off a mysterious cataclysm. Lara Croft's role is described more as one who protects dangerous artifacts rather than stealing them.

Today's press release confirms a few more details of the upcoming game. It's being described as the "biggest, most expansive" Tomb Raider game to date, featuring a single-player, narratively-driven adventure.

"It includes all the elements that have made Tomb Raider one of the most revered franchises in gaming," the statement continues, "giving players control of the confident and multidimensional hero Lara Croft in an environment that rewards exploration and creative pathfinding, with mind-bending puzzles to solve, and a wide variety of enemies to face and overcome."

The new Tomb Raider is still in early development, with more details to be disclosed at a later date.
