Nicolas Cage will be in Dead by Daylight, according to a new teaser from developer Behavior Interactive. We have absolutely no idea why Nic Cage is coming to Dead By Daylight, but we do know he'll be a survivor, and we'll get more information later this summer."There is nothing more powerful than imagination," says Cage in the teaser video on Twitter. "It can shape the fabric of reality, transforming everything you may think you know." Behavior says Nic will put on "the performance of a lifetime" as he enters through the fog as a survivor. We'll find out more on July 5 when presumably the full details of this celebrity tie-in chapter will be revealed.
There are a few clues in the teaser for us to determine what this could be about. First, there's a wrecked film set complete with an overturned director's chair and a green screen. Rotten food and toppled takeout containers can be seen on the table.
Second is Nic Cage himself. His Hugh Hefner-style smoking jacket, haircut, and beard are all exactly as he's portrayed in his upcoming film, Sympathy for the Devil, which conveniently hits movie theaters on July 28, just a few weeks after we're to be given an explanation for Cage's presence as a survivor in Dead by Daylight.
As with this crossover chapter, there's very little information on Sympathy for the Devil available at the moment. We know it'll star Nic Cage as a mysterious passenger who commands Joel Kinnaman's character to drive him around at gunpoint. The film is described as a psychological thriller with Cage and Kinnaman locked in a game of cat-and-mouse. But not everything is as it seems, according to what little description of the film was given to The Hollywood Reporter, but the release date pairs nicely with Cage's cameo appearance in Dead by Daylight.
Fan reaction to Nic Cage has been one of surprise and disbelief. Many fans on the Dead by Daylight subreddit thought the whole thing was an elaborate prank, but it's definitely real, which has some fans saying they'll return to the asymmetric multiplayer game just to play as Nic Cage.
This isn't the only Hollywood tie-in with Dead by Daylight. Blumhouse and Atomic Monster recently announced a partnership to adapt Dead by Daylight for the big screen. Production is in its earliest stages, but Blumhouse has an excellent track record of making high-quality, low-budget horror films using a variety of source materials.
