Ninja has hit out at the inclusion of custom loadouts in Call of Duty: Warzone. The incredibly skilled and stable streamer claims it takes away from the variety brought about by other battle royale titles.

Call of Duty: Warzone landed last week and has shaken up the already-crowded world of battle royale titles somewhat. CoD has entered the battle royale realm in the past, but its first week on the market would suggest that Warzone is the iteration that will stick around for the long haul. 15 million people played it during its first three days, a number that was undoubtedly boosted by people self-isolating looking for something to do.

What defines a battle royale game is debated every time a new heavy hitter enters the scene. Although Warzone is part of the battle royale genre, some would argue that it doesn't fit the traditional parameters of the relatively new genre. Ninja, who is never short of controversial things to say, would be one of those people.

The streamer, who can typically be found playing battle royale stalwart Fortnite, spoke out against one feature in particular used in Warzone. Custom loadouts. Ninja argues that the use of custom loadouts takes away from the variety and randomness that usually comes with playing the battle royale genre.

"Custom load outs in war zone = everyone has a thermal sniper and there is so much less variety," Ninja wrote on Twitter. Depending on how much in-game currency a player has, they can kit themselves out with something pretty special before even heading into battle. One of the main elements in other battle royale games is the fact that everyone starts with nothing, or at least on a level playing field. The first challenge is to find weapons and items that will help players last as long as possible.

If some players have thermal snipers or other high-powered weapons and items, newcomers to Warzone are at an instant disadvantage. At least with games like Fortnite and Apex Legends, someone playing for the very first time could happen upon something powerful straight away, giving them a chance of lasting a while during that round. Considering how integral custom loadouts are to CoD as a whole, chances are Ninja complaining about them won't change a thing.
