After years of being away from the spotlight, the Ninja Gaiden series is set to make a return on modern platforms. In the cleverly titled Ninja Gaiden Master Collection, all three of the Xbox trilogy titles will be made available for players to rage at on their platform of choice. While revealed during today's Nintendo Direct, publisher Koei Tecmo has confirmed that this compilation will be heading to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on June 10, 2021.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of an HD facelift, but it's great to have the absolutely amazing Ninja Gaiden Sigma on something other than PS3 and Vita. Sadly, anyone looking for a 100% complete collection will be sad to learn that the inferior Sigma 2 is included here, which dials down the gore and even adds some pretty lackluster extra content. Sigma, for that matter, isn't as tight as Ninja Gaiden Black and it would be cool to see the different variations here.

At least when it comes to Ninja Gaiden 3, Koei Tecmo is wisely leaving the original version out. After the departure of the series director Tomonobu Itagaki in 2008, the third entry in this revamped trilogy was met with an extremely negative reception on Xbox 360 and PS3. The re-release, titled Razor's Edge, fixed some issues but is still considered the black sheep of this franchise.

Even if only two out of the three titles are worth playing, this collection looks great. With it being available to everyone regardless of their Switch ownership, there's no reason to miss out on the genre-defining action game from 2004.
