This week's Nintendo Direct included a lot of exciting reveals, but as always, there were a few things people expected to see missing from the line-up. One was a re-reveal for Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp which was indefinitely delayed in March.Axios's Stephen Totilo reached out to a Nintendo rep about the remake. Even though the rep had nothing concrete to offer up in terms of a new release date, they were able to confirm the game has not been ditched. “The release has been delayed. We will announce the new date once it has been determined,” the reply reads.Re-Boot Camp was supposed to launch on Nintendo Switch on April 8, 2022. A month prior to that, Nintendo announced its indefinite delay due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Although no real-world nations are included in the game, nor does it depict anything close to a real-life battle, launching a game with Advance Wars' themes at the same time a real war was breaking out would have been a bad idea.
Since there was only a month left until Advance Wars 1+2 launched, it's assumed the remake is complete and ready to go whenever Nintendo decides a new date. Further confirmation of that came shortly after the most recent delay when one lucky player managed to unlock and play the game due to an eShop glitch. That was quickly reversed by Nintendo and the player was refunded.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the original games, the first of which launched on Game Boy Advance more than 20 years ago. It wasn't the only remake people were adamant would be a part of this week's Direct that didn't show up. Metroid Prime's remaster remains unconfirmed, and while we did get confirmation of Breath of the Wild 2's name and release date, there was nothing about Twilight Princess and Wind Waker coming to Switch.
