If you watched the most recent Nintendo Direct, then you know that Nintendo plans to add an expansion pack to Nintendo Switch Online in order to bring us access to classic N64 and Sega Genesis titles. But if you are like some who worry that this might mean the end of releases for NES and SNES titles, you can rest assured that those are set to keep coming.

It seems the current focus for Nintendo are the N64 and Sega games, as starting in October, the expansion that grants access to a whole list of these games will be available. Some of the notable N64 games include Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Starfox 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Tennis, and more, with games like Banjo-Kazooie and Paper Mario coming later. Sega Genesis games coming to the Switch include Castlevania: Bloodlines, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Phantasy Star 4, and more.

Because of Nintendo’s switch to focusing on the new service, some were worried that the company was done updating the other retro libraries. But it seems that Nintendo is still set on releasing those games for the original membership service. According to Stephen Totilo, co-author of the Axios Gaming newsletter, people have nothing to worry about. In his words, “Nintendo tells me that there will still be more NES and SNES games added for people who don’t upgrade to the new tier of Nintendo Switch Online.”

In other Nintendo news, the company also announced that it will be releasing N64 and Sega Genesis controllers to use on the Switch to go along with its launch of the new game collections. While this is fantastic news for some, others were not as stoked—especially regarding the N64 controllers. While it’s a nice throwback, no one wants to go back to the days when they were getting hand injuries due to the controller’s design.
