Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp has been delayed for the second time. Initially set to launch last December, Nintendo delayed the Advance Wars remake "for fine-tuning." Then during last month's Nintendo Direct, we found out Advance Wars 1+2 would hit the switch on April 8. However, due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, Nintendo has decided to delay Advance Wars again, this time to an unspecified date.

"In light of recent world events, we have made the decision to delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which was originally scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on 08/04,” wrote Nintendo. “Please stay tuned for updates on a new release date."

You really can't blame Nintendo for this one. Russia's invasion of Ukraine and threats of nuclear bombardment have everyone worried about the prospect of world war 3. Given the plot of Advance Wars is essentially a world war fought between several fictional countries, and where Blue Moon's general has a distinct Ruskie aesthetic (his character is even said to be based on Josef Stalin), perhaps delaying Advance Wars 1+2 is the right move.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the first two Advance Wars for the Game Boy Advance. It will feature new voicework, new animations, an expanded cast of characters, new weather effects, cutscenes, new game modes, and more. Remade cutscenes will tell the story of the war between Orange Star, Blue Moon, Green Earth, and Yellow Comet, while support for up to four-player multiplayer adds a new challenge for this strategy game.

But with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, perhaps it's not the best time to release a game about war no matter how cartoonish and divorced from real-life tragedy Advance Wars is. Now entering week three of the war, Ukrainian cities have suffered shelling and civilian casualties the likes of which Europe hasn't seen since the second world war. Ukrainian game developers are taking up arms to defend their country from Russian aggression, while allies around the world are sending donations to help with the Ukrainian war effort.
