With such a cute and simple design, it's a surprise that Kirby didn't end up one of the baby Pokemon instead. Just because Kirby is comparable to a baby Pokemon though, that doesn't mean he most likely couldn't hold his own against some more powerful Pokemon, and maybe even some legendaries.

With his incredibly powerful ability-stealing sucking power and extremely lightweight, on top of his ability to fly and withstand high amounts of damage, Kirby is a major contender against tons of Pokemon, although there are more than a few that even his high speeds most likely wouldn't be able to withstand.

10 Can: Gulpin

pokemon group of gulpin

Gulpin is pretty similar to Kirby overall, but unfortunately for Gulpin, he doesn't really stand a chance against Kirby. Kirby is much faster, and while Gulpin has a unique stomach lining that allows it to digest literally anything it can get into its stomach, Kirby is extremely fast and would most likely suck Gulpin up before he even knew what was going on.

9 Can't: Deoxys

deoxys pokemon

Deoxys is a fairly mysterious legendary Pokemon with myriad forms, including normal, attack, defense, and speed forms. While some of these forms would be more or less effective in a battle against Kirby, there's pretty much no way Kirby would be able to come out on top in a battle with the speed forme. Another issue is that Deoxys can clone itself, meaning that even if Kirby could defeat one, there are plenty of others to take care of our favorite puffball.

8 Can: Munchlax

Munchlax is another Pokemon that's pretty similar to Kirby, spending most of his time eating and lounging around. The only big difference is that when Kirby sees his home threatened, he takes action to save the Pop Star Planet.

When Munchlax is threatened, it'll fight if it has to, but not expending any more energy than it needs to. Maybe something could be said for Snorlax if he wasn't so slow, but Kirby wins this one.

7 Can't: Ninjask

Ninjask comes from Nincada, which also spawns a Pokemon with a really interesting ability named Shedinja. Shedinja has a really interesting ability that allows them to only take damage when the attack is super effective against its type. We're not talking about Shedinja though, we're talking about Ninjask, who is so fast that they were long thought invisible. No matter how fast Kirby is, there's no way he's getting away from this ultra-quick bug.

6 Can: Chansey

Nurse chansey

Chansey, the egg Pokemon with a lucky nature, probably isn't going to get out of this fight in any sort of reasonable shape unless that luck really pulls through for her. Chansey is one of the most popular cute little baby Pokemon, but most of her abilities lend her more towards healing, which is why she's often seen in hospitals. She's also way too kind-hearted to actually deal with an angry Kirby.

5 Can't: Mewtwo

Mewtwo reaching

Mewtwo is kind of radically powerful, even for a legendary. Created in a lab after genetic experiments on Mew, this Pokemon is nothing to sneeze at. It's also helped out a ton by the fact that it's ridiculously fast and durable.

Even if Kirby was able to catch up to Mewtwo to swallow him in a long, dogfight air batter, Kirby wouldn't be able to hold the miraculously powerful Mewtwo for long.

4 Can: Jigglypuff

A herd of Jigglypuffs

Jigglypuff might be able to put Kirby to sleep with her relaxing voice, but as soon as Kirby wakes up, it's go-time. Even if Kirby hadn't consumed anyone and stolen their abilities before the fight started, Kirby would be able to swallow Jigglypuff up pretty much immediately. There's also the fact that Jigglypuff is a pretty slow and carefree Pokemon, meaning that she's probably not fast enough to catch up.

3 Can't: Crobat

brock crobat in flight

Crobat is actually one of the fastest non-legendaries in the entirety of the franchise, which makes their evolutionary line pretty annoying to encounter if the player didn't stock up on repels before entering whatever cave they were unfortunate enough to wander into.

Crobat is also a Pokemon who's so fast that they can be difficult to see, especially in the dank grottoes they inhabit. If Kirby walks into the wrong cave, he's done for.

2 Can: Slowpoke

Galarian slowpoke

This one is just kind of sad. Not only is Slowpoke... as its name suggests, fairly slow, they're also pretty dumb. We mean no offense to Slowpoke, legitimately, it's just that the game calls them "The Dopey Pokemon" in the Pokedex for a reason, and that's because they aren't the quickest of wit. Slowpoke is a water/psychic type Pokemon with some pretty decent moves, but that doesn't really matter when the Pokemon using these moves is pretty much useless.

1 Can't: Mega Alakazam

Mega alakazam in flight

Mega Alakazam is kind of a juggernaut, excelling in special defense and special attack, making him a pretty hardy opponent for Kirby, even if the little puffball had inhaled another Pokemon and absorbed its abilities. Mega Alakazam is also extremely fast, pretty much immediately dwarfing Kirby in pretty much any way there is. Alakazam in his mega form can also tell a creature's entire life, past and future, just by looking at it, meaning that it's always one step ahead of Kirby.
