Nintendo has announced that the Switch and some games will be on sale this upcoming Black Friday. The offers will include a bundle of the Nintendo Switch with a download code for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, individual games, and additional Joy-Con controllers.

The news comes as a surprise since Nintendo rarely brings down the price of its products. This is often reflected in how well games and hardware maintain their resale value years after release, whereas Sony and Microsoft provide numerous price drops for games and consoles over the years.

The Switch bundle will have a suggested retail sale price of $399.99 USD, which is a savings of $79.99 from the normal price. However, there is one major caveat in this deal, and that is that the bundle includes the original Nintendo Switch model HAC-001, with battery performance ranging from 2.5 to 6.5 hours. This may turn off some potential consumers since you can purchase the model with a far greater battery life for the regular price. However, this is definitely a good deal for others who don't mind primarily playing while the system is docked.

In addition, two games will also be on sale. Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will drop down to $59.99 each, $20 less than their normal price. A pair of Joy-Con controllers can also be purchased for $79.99, with a savings of $20.

While these types of discounts from Nintendo are rare, the timing of the sale makes perfect sense. With the recent release of the Nintendo Switch Lite and the upcoming holiday season, Nintendo is looking to get as many consoles out to consumers as possible. Nintendo has already been dominating recent sales, and its latest quarterly earnings report indicates that it may have outsold the Xbox One. According to recent figures, both the Switch and Switch Lite have now collectively sold over 15 million units.

It seems that 2019 is especially important to the company since 2020 is expected to be overshadowed by the non-stop hype of both Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles. As the popularity of the Switch and its broad library of high-quality games continues to expand, it will be interesting to see how well both Sony and Microsoft do next year.

In any case, the sale is a fantastic opportunity to grab a Nintendo Switch or some new games. The sale will begin on November 28, according to Nintendo, but it has not specified a specific end date.
