F-Zero fans have been feeding on scraps. Ever since the last F-Zero game released back in 2004, fans have had to settle for retro re-releases and vague promises that the series isn't entirely dead. Despite being fairly niche, the series still has a ravenous fanbase, one desperately hoping for a new game in what is approaching 18 years. Well, it turns out one Nintendo shareholder is also pretty keen on seeing the series return, and voiced that desire directly to Nintendo itself.First reported by Twitter user NStyles (thanks VGC), Nintendo's annual meeting took place today and included a short Q & A section in which shareholders put questions to the Nintendo board. One shareholder apparently took it upon themselves to ask Nintendo if it planned to revisit any older titles with new games or remakes, and mentioned titles such as Baten Kaitos, Wario Land, The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls, Trade & Battle: Card Hero, ChÅsÅjÅ« Mecha MG, and, of course, F-Zero.While most of us would have loved for the company to announce an F-Zero revival right then and there, the company instead decided to be pretty vague, but didn't rule out another game coming.
"Regarding remakes of older titles, we are thinking about a wide range of interesting ways to try new and old things," explains general manager of EPD Shinya Takahashi. "We received a similar question before. At that time, we happened to have a remake planned, so we discussed it, but there are things I cannot say right now." Takashi then went on to show the games coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year, including Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Splatoon 3.
The board itself couldn't be seen during the meeting, although the shareholder claims that both Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takashi "looked happy" whilst they were listing off older titles they'd like to see sequels for. It's not exactly the F-Zero announcements that fans are craving, but at least the higher-ups at Nintendo know that there's pretty considerable demand for a new F-Zero.
