Nintendo has confirmed that we will get a glimpse of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo Switch at E3 of 2018, as an invitational tournament for the new will be held alongside the Splatoon 2 World Championships.

Nintendo will be holding the Splatoon 2 World Championships of 2018 at E3, with the tournament being held from June 11th till the 12th. This was announced with a video on the official Nintendo YouTube page, which also revealed that a Super Smash Bros. Invitational will be held over the same time period.

Those of you hoping to see more footage of the game in the trailer will be disappointed, as they only showed footage from the Super Smash Bros. game for the Wii U, along with the clip of the Inkling staring at the burning Smash Ball from the original trailer for the game.

This means that our first glimpse of the new Super Smash Bros. game will be at E3, barring anymore reveals from a Direct between now and June.

Nintendo has been making a concerted effort to enter the eSports market, with many of the Switch's games having a strong competitive component. Games like Arms, Pokkén Tournament DX and especially Splatoon 2 are tailor-made for gaming festivals. The system also has third-party games like Rocket League which are also popular at tournaments.

Nintendo brought back the Nintendo World Championships in 2015, with another tournament being held in 2017. These contents had a mixture of retro, current, and upcoming games. Splatoon and Smash Bros. have been fixtures at these events and it seems like that won't be changing with the Switch era.

The fact that you can bring your Switch with you anywhere while having two controllers connected at all time means that you have one of the best video game consoles for playing with (or against) friends. The biggest issue with Splatoon and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was that they were chained to a bulky and unimpressive system in terms of its technical strength. The Switch promises to change all that and give these series more of a chance to shine as eSport games that can rival the likes of Overwatch and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

Those of you who are interested in possibly taking part in the Splatoon 2 World Championships can find out more at the E3 Nintendo website.
