Nintendo (Sort Of) Acknowledges Bowsette - While Trying To Remove Her From Existence

Nintendo has squashed Bowsette's chances of being canon. According to the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe page, only Toadette can use the Super Crown.

Nintendo probably did not anticipate the popularity that would erupt from an item called the Super Crown. This hat will be seen in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, releasing in about two weeks. The Super Crown enables Toadette to transform into a Princess Peach copy. Because of that, fans started having fun with the idea of Bowsette, where Bowser himself puts on the crown. Nintendo has not directly acknowledged this overnight phenomenon, but the company seems to want to quell it.

On Nintendo's official page for New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, you can find a section on the Super Crown. Here, we see that Toadette is the only character capable of using the item.

Thus, it is impossible for Bowsette to ever be a real thing. Of course, this isn't likely to stop fans from posting fan art and animations about the character. Some memes can be hard to pinpoint their origin, but it's easy with Bowsette. A DeviantArt user named ayyk92posted a comic on Twitter back in September, showing Bowser using the Super Crown at the end of Super Mario Odyssey. From there, the internet went wild. There are a lot of animations and fan art concepts, like Boosette. Although the idea of Bowsette is simple fun for many, there are plenty of inappropriate images on the web, which could be a reason why Nintendo has made it clear that Toadette is the only one capable of using the Super Crown.

Ironically, Bowsette, a fan made character, has overshadowed the actual release of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. The game is an enhanced port of the original release. Deluxe will include New Super Luigi U., a game that is a harder, remixed version of the main title. Also, Toadette and Nabbit will be playable characters. The original game for Wii U was well received, receiving an 84 on Metacritic. While not too different from previous games, it offered a new power-up and fun levels. It was also the first Mario game in high definition. It should look great on Switch.
