A new report claims various companies have been sent dev kits for the development of 4K Switch games. Nintendo has issued a statement denying those claims.

Earlier this year, it felt like a fresh rumor about a new Nintendo Switch model emerged pretty much every day. Nintendo did eventually announce an updated console, the Switch OLED model. A Switch with a slightly bigger and better quality screen with a few other additions and improvements. It wasn't the console many were expecting though since there was no mention of 4K.

However, according to a new report from Bloomberg, a 4K Switch is still very much in the works. According to the report, employees from 11 different companies claim to be in possession of a 4K Switch dev kit, with instructions from Nintendo to create games that are 4K capable. One of the 11 companies is developer Zynga, although a spokesperson for the studio has since denied it has access to a dev kit.

Speaking of which, Nintendo has also felt the need to react to this latest report and nip it in the bud. “A news report on Sept. 30, 2021(JST) falsely claims that Nintendo is supplying tools to drive game development for a Nintendo Switch with 4K support,” Nintendo's statement reads. “To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to clarify that this report is not true.”

Nintendo follows up by again highlighting that after the OLED Switch, which launches next week on October 8, it has no other plans for a new console. The still hypothetical 4K Switch, which was dubbed the Switch Pro by those who believed it to be real earlier this year, seems like a logical step forward for the console after the regular model, the Switch Lite, and now the OLED model. However, according to Nintendo, there is currently no such thing.

Despite Nintendo's categorical denial that it and the developers of its games are working on a 4K console and titles with 4K capability, that isn't going to stop those who want one from trying to will it into existence. It also isn't going to stop the Switch in its current forms, and the upcoming OLED model, from continuing to break all sorts of records. Nintendo revealed the console has now sold more than 89 million units worldwide, with the Wii now firmly in its sights.
