Updated by Madison Lennon on January 22, 2020: Now that we're finally into the new year, we figured it was time to revisit this list of our most anticipated Nintendo Switch games due out later this year. Some games have been removed because they already released, and others were delayed. On the other hand, we now have updated information on several new games, too! Nintendo has a lot of great content planned for the remainder of the year.

Some are Switch exclusive games, like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and others are releasing on multiple platforms. There are some great original new games coming out and several that are from already established franchises. Check out our top anticipated Nintendo Switch games of 2020.

10 Darksiders Genesis

If you're a fan of the Darksiders franchise, then you'll want to make sure you get your hands on a copy of Darksiders Genesis. The game is considered a prequel to the series and is a hack-and-slash action roleplaying game.

It will be released on February 14, just in time for Valentine's Day! The game introduces the fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, a character called Strife, who can team up with War. There is also a co-op mode for those who love multiplayer.

9 Gods & Monsters

Gods & Monsters is a new game coming to Nintendo Switch on February 25. Fans of Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild will likely find a lot to love about Gods & Monsters since the games look somewhat similar in terms of their graphics and layout.

If you were a fan of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, you will also find a lot to like in Gods & Monsters since the same team designed this game. You'll be transported to a fantasy island filled with famous Greek myths and legends.

8 Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX

Pokemon fans are getting a lot of awesome new content this year, first up is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, which is releasing on March 6. You get to play as a Pokemon instead of a trainer and go on dungeon-crawling adventures with other Pokemon which you get to recruit and add to your team.

It's a strategy game where you and your team will go on rescue missions and you get to build camps, battle, and build your friendships. Plus, the dungeon layouts will change which lets you embark on a different adventure every time!

7 Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing is finally getting a new game in the franchise this upcoming March. The official release date for the game is March 20, 2020. It will be the first brand new full-length Animal Crossing game to release on the Nintendo Switch.

Fans have been waiting a long time for a new Animal Crossing game as the last one, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, released in 2012. The new game will make some changes, such as the retirement of Mr. Resetti and the fact you'll start from scratch with nothing but a tent.

6 Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing In Disguise

While the first Deadly Premonition game wasn't super popular upon its initial release, it did become a cult favorite and has earned itself a passionate and loyal fanbase over time. The sequel will finally arrive on Nintendo Switch sometime this year and fans are super excited.

The game will be set in Le Carré and players will need to work hard to solve crimes and murders while playing as an FBI agent. The timeline will vary from 2005 all the way to 2019. Deadly Premonitions: Origins is now available for players who are unfamiliar in the Nintendo eShop.

5 Trials of Mana

Trials of Mana is getting a snazzy new update that is due for release on April 24, it will also be available on PS4 and Windows. The game is a 3D remake of the original 1995 action roleplaying game designed by Square Enix.

You'll be able to play the beloved game with beautiful new graphics and renderings. Everything has been upgraded and remastered, including dialogue and the soundtrack, there are more options this timea round. You'll have to use your power of mana to save the world once again.

4 Pokemon Sword and Shield: Expansion Pass

It wasn't enough to give us brand new Pokemon games last year, Nintendo is now adding on even more to Pokemon Sword and Shield with their upcoming Expansion Pass!

The pass will come with two brand new islands, The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. Part One, The Isle of Armor, will release by the end of June and the other will come out in autumn, but you can purchase both together now. The pass will give players new Pokemon, new items, new battles, and even a new story to explore and play for hours!

3 No More Heroes III

No More Heroes III will once again follow Travis Touchstone as he returns to the town he was exiled from in order to take on a mysterious new threat in the form of intergalactic assassins. It's an action-adventure game that will officially be released on the Nintendo Switch in 2020.

The exact date has not yet been announced. This will be the first new game in the No More Heroes line in ten years. Fans can expect to see Travis's Beam Katana return in addition to several of his trademark fighting moves.

2 Empire of Sin

Empire of Sin is an exciting new game that will release on multiple platforms next year. If you enjoy simulation games, particularly games where everything is based on real-time, then you'll love Empire of Sin where you get to play a Prohibition-era crime boss.

The game will take place in 1920 and your job will be to gain control of the Chicago area. You'll be able to run various businesses such as speakeasies and casinos, and you can enlist people to join your crew and become your henchmen.

1 Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition has, unfortunately, been delayed yet again. It will not be released until Summer 2020 at this point. Fans are eager to get their hands on the game as a remastered version has been highly-anticipated for several years now.

Crystal Chronicles is one of the most popular games in the franchise. For those who have never played it before, it is an action roleplaying game where you play as a group of adventurers tasked with traveling the world in hopes of finding magical crystals to protect settlements from the deadly miasma.
